It was all of a sudden: 376 Nigerian evacuees arrive from Egypt, some recount horrible experiences

A group of 376 Nigerian evacuees who fled the ongoing war in Sudan arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport from Egypt on Wednesday night.

Some of the returnees shared their experiences of the conflict and their flight to Egypt for safety.

According to reports, one of the evacuees, a third-year physiotherapy undergraduate, said that when the war started, they were sleeping and suddenly woke up to the sound of gunshots and rockets.

She further explained: “We had to leave Khartoum for Egypt and it was totally hard for us. Some of us don’t have money and life there was very expensive. There were pregnant women and children who were sick.” In addition, they had to sleep in a car during the dark hours, fearing that they would not survive.

She also explained that things were worse at the borders of Egypt, where they were not treated with humanity and were treated poorly for at least six days.

Another student, Hakinabrat Hamzat, also shared his experience, saying, “It was all of a sudden. We never expected it. We just woke up in the morning and started hearing the sounds of bombs and everyone had to start fleeing.” He added, “I left Nigeria to study in Sudan because studying in Nigeria is not easy. I studied at the International University of Africa.”

Nigerian man expresses frustration after spending two years in Europe

Meanwhile, a Nigerian man recently shared his ongoing struggles after leaving the country and spending two years in Europe.

Despite being overseas for a significant amount of time, the man was unable to secure suitable employment or decent housing. In a video posted online, the man can be seen residing in a makeshift wooden tent.

The young Nigerian man disclosed that he is homeless and sleeps outdoors.
