Davido has disclosed his stand on the subject that Drake’s influence built afrobeat into what it is now.
Speaking in an interview with the Bootlegpodcast, he discussed the growth of Afrobeat and how much the genre has transformed.
During the interview, he was asked questions on how U.S/Canadian rapper, Drake put the spotlight on the genre.

He addressed the popular narrative that Drake is responsible for the global recognition the genre currently enjoys.
The DMW boss responded by saying that he disagrees with the narrative because Afrobeat was already really huge before Drake collaborated with Nigerian singers
He revealed that before Drake’s collaboration, there were some Afrobeat OGs who had crossed into American markets.
