Ange Postecoglou appointed Tottenham manager on a 4-year deal

Ange Postecoglou has been appointed Tottenham’s head coach on a four-year deal.

The Australian arrives from Celtic where he completed the domestic treble this season, with the recent Scottish Cup victory following league and League Cup success.

He also won the Scottish Premiership and League Cup in his first season at the Glasgow club.

He is the first Australian to manage in the Premier League.

“Ange Postecoglou brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play,” said Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy.

“He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Ange Postecoglou has also previously had league title success in his native Australia and Japan with South Melbourne, Brisbane Roar and Yokohama F. Marinos respectively, as well as winning the Asian Cup with the Australian men’s national team.

The 57-year-old arrives at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium as a permanent replacement for Antonio Conte, who left the club in March.

Cristian Stellini

Following the Italian’s departure, Cristian Stellini and then Ryan Mason both took charge on an interim basis as the club searched for a new manager.

The lengthy recruitment process saw the north Londoners eye up Julian Nagelsmann and Feyenoord’s Arne Slot before settling on Ange Postecoglou.

Spurs finished eighth in the Premier League last season, their lowest position for 14 years, meaning they miss out on European football for the upcoming campaign.

The future of club record goal scorer Harry Kane is also in doubt, with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United keen to steal him away from north London.

It has been reported that Real could launch a move for Kane after Karim Benzema’s exit.

Kane only has one year left on his contract with Tottenham, where he is the club’s all-time top scorer with 280 goals.

He has scored 213 Premier League goals, putting him second on the all-time list behind Alan Shearer on 260.
