A black genius lady has set another great record at the University of Florida as she became the first black person to earn Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering at just 27 years old.
The lady, Charlyne Smith moved to the United States in 2012, where she got her Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry and Mathematics at the Coppin State University in Baltimore in 2017.
Her love for nuclear Engineering was ignited when she met a nuclear scientist Dr. Nickie Peters at a Coppin State University alumni event.
She did it to make impact
Charlyne added that she felt doing nuclear engineering will help bring change to countries that need it.
Then she decided to further her education in her new area of interest and proceeded to the University of Florida, United States, where she bagged a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering.
Smith excitedly anticipates more opportunities and open doors for marginalized groups, especially Black women and men, to contribute and innovate in nuclear energy. She hopes this will help tackle global issues like climate change.

Meanwhile, a 7-year-old girl set a new record after breaking the previous junior Olympics record.
Dakota White, from Dallas, Texas, is now the fastest kid in her country after clocking a time of 59.08 seconds.
When Fox4 News asked her about her secrets, she said, “I just run really hard.”
