Boss Move: Rejected flight attendant starts her own airline company

A lady started her own airline company, after being rejected for a flight attendant position by another airline company.

Sibongile Sambo, a South African woman, was rejected for the position of a flight attendant because she did not meet the minimum height requirement for the position.

Inspired by the rejection, the 42-year-old woman decided to become her own boss. Instead of giving up her dream of flying, she founded her own airline company, SRS Aviation.

The company is the first African female and Black woman-owned aviation company.

At the time she had the inspiration, the funds were not there. Sibongile Sambo was compelled to sell her car as a result of this.

She also used her mother’s pension to pay for a South African Civil Aviation Authority license (Air Operating Certificate).

Fortunately for her, the aviation company grew and gained massive recognition. In 2013, she has been named one of the “20 Young Power Women in Africa.”

A significant player in the South African aviation industry, MCC Aviation, has collaborated with the entrepreneur’s company to provide technical and operational support as well as access to a fleet of aircraft.

Her goal is to provide unrivaled air service and top the list of low-cost air service providers for individuals and businesses both locally and globally.

In an interview with CNN, she said, “I am where I am because someone made an investment in me. Now is my chance to make an investment in other people.”
