If my policies have hurt you, please forgive me, I’m only human – Buhari begs Nigerians

President Muhammadu Buhari has appealed to Nigerians, especially those hurt by his administration’s numerous policies to please forgive him.

The retired General made this plea during his final Sallah message as president at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday, April 21, as reported by Daily Trust.

Buhari also appreciated Nigerians for tolerating him during his eight-year tenure that would officially wind down on May 29th 2023. “I think this is a very good coincidence for me to say goodbye to you and to thank you for tolerating me for more than seven and half years now,” he said.

I will be far away as possible

The president revealed that his plans after handing over remain to stay away as far as possible because he has gotten what he wanted and is now desperate to enjoy a quiet retirement.

According to him, having the privilege to serve as a minister, governor, and also president is something amazing for which he is grateful to God.

“I assure you, I have deliberately arranged to be as far away from you as possible not because I don’t appreciate the love you’ve shown to me, but because I think I’ve gotten what I have asked and I would rather quietly retire to my hometown.

“Having been a Governor, Minister and the President twice, I think God has given us an incredible opportunity to serve as your president. And I thank God for that. So, please whoever feels I have done wrong to, we are all humans. There is no doubt I hurt some people and I wish you will pardon me. And those that think that I have hurt them so much, please pardon me.”

Buhari Fails to Speak On Violent Protests

Meanwhile, during one of his nationwide broadcast, President Muhammadu Buhari disobeyed a Supreme Court order on the continued use of old naira notes.

Despite admitting the difficulties that the new currency policy caused Nigerians, he only approved the continued use of N200 notes as legal tender across the country.

He said the old N200 will exist alongside the new N200 notes as the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) will continue to mop up the old N500 and N1,000 still in the hands of Nigerians.
