I love football, I really do,” Burna Boy explained. “But the thing was, I was really good at goalkeeping, and that’s not the most glamorous position on the pitch.

I didn’t feel like I was making enough of an impact like I wasn’t really needed. I didn’t want to spend my life feeling that way.”

And so, Burna Boy traded in his football boots for a mic and a dream.

Since releasing his debut single “Like To Party” in 2011, he has gone on to release five studio albums and achieve global success with his unique blend of Afro-fusion music.

But the road to success wasn’t always easy.

Burna Boy faced criticism and doubt from those around him, who didn’t believe he could make it as a musician.

People would tell me, ‘You’re wasting your time, you can’t sing, you can’t do this,'” he recalled. “But I knew what I wanted and I just kept going.”

Burna Boy made history by becoming the first Nigerian artist to win a Grammy award for his album “Twice As Tall.”
