From homeless boy to Chess Champion: Talented Nigerian boy sets world record to become US chess master

A talented Nigerian boy has raised the Nigerian flag high by setting a renowned record in the game of chess. The 12-year-old has gained the headlines of both local and foreign news for his massive achievement.

Tanitoluwa Adewumi was born on September 3, 2010. Due to the rise of insurgency caused by Boko Haram in Nigeria, his family fled with him to the United States in 2017.

However, in the US, they had to endure some tough times as they were homeless and had to live in a homeless shelter in New York.

From refugee to asylum

In 2019, Tani, as he is fondly called, rose to stardom when he became New York’s chess champion at age 8.

At age 10, he achieved the official USCF title of National Master on May 1 2021. He is the 28th-youngest chess player in history to ever achieve such a feat.

In December 2022, Tani and his family were granted asylum by the government of the United States.

The young boy in an Instagram post was full of thanks to God for all his achievement and he also appreciated the support his parents gave him.

“Faith and persistence got us to where we are now, and we give thanks to those that helped us along the way, our family, and, most importantly, God! Miracles are happening every day,” he said.

Talented Nigerian Boy Invents Generator That Works Without Fuel

In another story, a talented Nigerian boy invented a power generator that works appropriately without requiring fuel.

The 11-year-old boy, identified as Muhammad Kaumi Bashir from Borno state, Nigeria, is still in his first year in high school.

Kaumi Bashir’s curiosity and problem-solving skills led him to fabricate the mini-power generator, as he remains on course to fulfil his dream of becoming an Electrical Engineer.
