Fun Activities for Couples on Valentine’s Day

‘Tis that season again. The season of love, lust and other things that make the tongue curl (I mean in the style of the letter L, not whatever you’re thinking). Valentine’s Day is here again; surely it is, otherwise, you would have no business reading this article.

When I was younger, I always wanted to know who this dude Valentine was and why people were always committing sins in his name. Now I’m older and I realize it’s a season of love and appreciation (not like Christmas), a season of sacrifice and action, a season of chivalry and affirmative glances at our special someone.

And for my single brothers and sisters, Valentine’s is a season of oppression from couples and wishful thinking.

There are several stories that do tell about the reason for Valentine’s. While there isn’t a confirmed story yet, one similarity they have is heroism, sympathy, and romance.

Now, I’m not here to bore you with history, because a season like Valentine, which supposedly entails heroism, sympathy, and romance, requires a lot of planning for your special one.

This one is for the football lovers

No be everytime so so knack knack like say you be carpenter apprentice and your bae na nail; they deserve something personal, thoughtful, and special.

It can sometimes be a daunting task, however, to find something interesting to do on Valentine’s day. However, look no further as I come to your rescue (you are welcome).

10 best fun activities for couples on Valentine’s Day

Walk in a park

Walk in the park
Walk in the park

Hold on, it will make sense, I promise. A walk in the park is an underestimated romantic action. This option is for couples that work 24/7 throughout the year and barely have time for their loved ones.

Valentine to you would then mean you have a day separated to talk with your partner, shower them with your undivided attention, settle disputes, reminisce on old times, etc. Actions like these would be unsuccessful in overcrowded places (with Asake blaring in the speakers).

The best gestures don’t have to be the grandest. Take your lover on that walk and talk to them about themselves. Benjamin Disraeli said, “Talk to a man about himself and he would listen for hours”. It doesn’t seem like a bad idea now, does it?

Beach

Couple on the beach

When I think of the beach, I think of my feet gliding through the water as it washes up to the bank, the mystery far into the sea that my eyes cannot reach, the calmness that you feel as each wave occurs and the almost overlooked softness of the sand.

Doesn’t that sound therapeutic? The beach is a multipurpose destination where couples could have time to themselves in the open, have deep conversations about the relationship and where it is leading, and have a keen reflection on the partner they so love.

Going to the beach is surely one of the fun activities for couples on Valentine’s day. It is a valuable option, and if all goes according to plan, you have a thriving relationship.

Paintballing

Paintballing

I have been itching to try this out. Although, it is more of a group activity and requires reaching out to fellow couples for this activity.

Paintballing breaks the norm for romantic activities for Valentine’s. You get to engage your bae in a battle testing their attacking, defensive and cooperative skills. During this activity, one gets to lose oneself and enjoy the moment.

This can be an unforgettable experience; however, make sure not to get overwhelmed by the competition

Don’t turn to Jackie Chan

A lot can be said about a person by the way they paintball (seriously!).

Visit a Nature Reserve

With the advent of urbanization, many of us rarely get to experience nature (in the office and back home). Nature reserves, however, are places separated to ensure nature is saved for posterity amidst development.

For Valentine’s day, visiting a nature park is a tangible idea as it offers a very serene environment with lots of side attractions. Fun activities for couples on Valentine’s Day don’t get much better than this.

Go to the movies or a concert

Movies

There is a new movie that you have both not watched? Or do you both have a favorite artist? The cinema or a concert is a great place to spend Valentine’s and lose yourself in the arms of your loved one or in the music.

Movies and Concerts are interesting activities that allow one to be with a loved one and at the same time enjoy what one loves. If you’ve been to the movies too many times and want to spice things up, you can binge-watch movies (thanks to Netflix).

And if it’s a Burna Boy concert, wear a helmet. You’ll thank me later.

Boat Cruise

The grandness of this gesture speaks for itself. For a day, you give your partner the feeling that many just read about in novels. To bolster your efforts, you can have a buffet present on the ship and the cabin should be littered with red roses. Don’t also forget the red wine, with Hero by Enrique Iglesias playing in the background (I can be your hero, baby!).

Whether you choose to sail slowly or not, being on the water with the rocking or gentle sway of the boat is an experience to enjoy with that special someone.

Book a Fancy Hotel

Go on, ask me that question on your mind. You are thinking, why can’t I just display this romantic gesture in my house, spray red roses on the bed, put scented candles at the corners, and wear a white towel?

Have you ever desperately needed a change of environment and scenery? I know I have. What better day to change the environment than Valentine’s day? This gives you the chance to kill two birds with one stone.

Paint Studio

You don’t have to be creative to paint and attend a pottery class with your bae. The chance to be creative and depict your feelings on paper is underrated. It is a bonding moment and requires being in touch with your emotions.

Channel your inner Leonardo da Vinci, Vincent van Gogh and Michelangelo, and enjoy Valentine’s day with your partner.

Gym

I am sure you are surprised as to why this is on the list but, isn’t it nice? You and your bae are in the gym, sweating it out and pushing yourselves past the limit. Hyping each other after each set with a lot of fist-bumps, hugs, and jumps.

For some of us that are not so romantic and wished to engage in rigorous activities (no, not that one) during valentine, look no further than the gym.
