Galentine’s! A Different Way to Celebrate Love

Galentine's

My dear single pringles, get in here, I have something for you.

It’s no news that February 14th has been chosen by the other side as a day to celebrate love and romance. And year after year, they have rubbed it in our faces, and we have taken it while secretly wishing we had a day of our own too.

Well, worry no more.

Fate has shined down on us and the holiday gods have decided to bless us with a new holiday.

Galentine’s day!

Yup! Galentine’s day is celebrated on the 13th of February, a day before Valentine’s. I love this date so much because this way we finally get something before the relationship people.

What is Galentine’s day?

To put it simply, Galentine’s day is like valentine’s day, but for gals. But this doesn’t mean men cannot celebrate it as well, although they might have to find a name for theirs. Maybe Brolentine’s? Dudentine’s? Guyentine’s?

It’s a day for friends, single or not, to celebrate the beauty of friendships.

Galentines was invented for women to celebrate the women in their lives. Be it your friends, mom, sister, aunt, cousin, or whichever female you want to celebrate. In a season so focused on romantic relationships, it’s really sweet to kick back with your gal pals and celebrate them for all they are.

Normally, this should be done every day, but having one dedicated to doing that just makes it intentional and thoughtful.

Apart from being a great way for women to celebrate one another, it also takes the valentine’s blues away. This is why I love the date chosen for it. February 13th!

Origin

It’s really funny how galentine’s became a thing because of an episode in a movie. If you have seen the movie Parks and recreation, go see it. This holiday owes its existence to Leslie Knope

In that episode, Leslie showers her friends with gifts like handmade mosaics of their faces, crocheted flower pens, and 5,000-word essays on why she loves them so much. They drink mimosas, have fun and go over the top with expressions of love.

Per her words, “we just come and kick it, breakfast style, ladies celebrating ladies.”

And thus, Galentine’s Day was unofficially born.

Who Can Celebrate Galentine’s?

This has been a cause for debate for a while now. While the Gal in Galentine’s makes it sound like it’s for only girl pals, I think it’s okay to celebrate with guys as well.

Galentine’s is for friends in general, so you can go ahead and celebrate it with all your pals, male and female.

How Can You Celebrate Galentine’s Day?

Galentine’s should be celebrated the same way you celebrate valentine’s.

One of the best ways to celebrate Galentine’s Day is to gather your friends together for a fun and festive brunch. This can include delicious food and drinks, as well as games and activities to enjoy together. You could also plan a day of pampering, like a spa day or getting your nails done together.

Another way to celebrate Galentine’s is to give your friends thoughtful and heartfelt gifts. Can range from something simple like a handmade card or a small trinket to extravagant gifts like a weekend getaway or a piece of jewelry.

Whatever you choose, the important thing is that it comes from the heart and shows your appreciation for your friends.

You can also create something together. Maybe do a pottery event, paint and sip, or a themed party. Something creative that will stay with all of you for a long time. Apart from the memories this will help you create, you also have physical evidence of the day to take home.

Galentine’s Day is also a great opportunity to do something good for others. You could organize a charity event, volunteer at a local shelter, or simply make care packages for those in need. This is a great way to bond with your friends while also making a positive impact on your community.
