Unlike every other generation (Ahem, the boomers) who know little or nothing about technology, Gen-Z are great with technology. They will bring new ideas to the workplace! Technological ideas would move your company forward, especially in an age where almost everything is online.

Gen Z are willing to try new things which may or may not put your company in jeopardy. You can expect them to pick up new technology (Hello, Tiktok?) They can also access new information and they always have something to say.

Before “Generation Z” was declared their official title, other competing names were “Selfie Generation” and “iGen.”

No wonder companies are now incorporating TikTok into their social media. They are the “Awon Snapchat” league.

In the past, work was a huge part of people’s lives. However, Gen Z in the workplace make sure that there is some kind of balance. Not only do they do that, but they ensure that there are salary and health insurance benefits.

So, yes they are hardworking and intent on having multiple streams of income, but they still want that work-life balance. Don’t expect them to work after hours, or pull up on the weekends when such is not in their contracts.

And what’s more? You cannot threaten or bully them. These people know their rights and are willing to fight for them.

They always have something to say

Gone are the days when people would cower at opportunities to speak. The silent generation is popular for letting things happen to them without batting an eyelash or making things better.

Not Generation Z. These people prefer face-to-face interactions with co-workers, and will always speak their minds. Gen Zs value collaboration and want others to bring their unique perspectives to a conversation. And if you talk anyhow, you go collect anyhow.

Remote work is what they want

The covid-19 pandemic shook the entire world – it changed everything from how we interact, school and work. Because of the nature of the virus, social interaction had to be altered and was reduced drastically.

Guess who benefited the most from that?

When the pandemic struck, most companies asked their workers to work from home. Ever since then, the trend of remote work has become popular. Nowadays, people want to work from the comfort of their homes, where they don’t have to deal with Nigeria’s draining traffic or interact with a co-worker that they do not like.

So if you’re employing a Gen-Z person, be sure that you are including remote work. Otherwise, take whatever you see like that.

Gen Z grew up witnessing others use technology to create profitable business ventures, just like Uncle Mark Zuckerberg. They are primed to leverage this knowledge to create opportunities for themselves.

They are not fans of authoritarian environments

Finally, Gen Zs have also grown up with the ability to share their thoughts publicly and receive real-time feedback through social media. In other words, they don’t like someone pumping their chest, flaring their nostrils at them. They believe they can also be in charge and yes, they will change it for your papa.

Gen-Z in the workplace can be so competitive, especially if they don’t like you. They will pull up multiple ways to make you know that they dey run this town.

Gen Z in the workplace: Conclusion

So, now you know. Gen Z are different from other generations in a lot of ways, in their approach to work, their dressing and so much more. They love new experiences! Most job opportunities that they take are enriching to them; opportunities to open a new chapter in their story, something to talk about to their friends, new bosses to hate, co-workers to bond with, and achievements to be made.

They see work as a way to enrich their experience of the world, and as both a personal and professional benefit.

Gen Z can benefit other generations in the workforce as well. Most importantly, these people don’t see failure as a moment to stop. They are inspired by failure and keep on going forward.
