Ibrahim Gusau Emerges as NFF President

Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau has won the Elective Congress to become the new President of the Nigeria Football Federation conducted earlier today, beating former Nigeria International goalkeeper Peterside Idah in a one-sided contest in Benin City.

Gusau will replace outgone Melvin Amaju Pinnick, who served eight years at the helms of Nigeria’s football governing body and wanted to run for a third term in office before he was forced to abandon the bid following agitation from a majority of football stakeholders as well Nigerian football followers.

Gusau, a Former Chairman of Chairmen of the NFF who also doubles as the Chairman of Zamfara State Football Association, was declared the winner of the contest in Benin.

Gusau defeated Idah by 39 votes to 1 in the re-run after Seyi Akinwunmi and Shehu Dikko withdrew from the re-run.

In the first round of voting, 10 aspirants were eyeing the position of the presidency but only seven candidates contested at the end, as the other three staged early withdrawals.

At the end of the voting, Ibrahim Gusau came out victorious with 21 votes to dump Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi to the second position with 12 votes.

Mallam Shehu Dikko placed 3rd with 6 votes while Abba Yola and Peterside Idah recorded 1 vote apiece.

The duo Dr. Christian Emeruwa and David Doherty had zero votes.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of two-time former African Champions, Enyimba Football Club of Aba, Chief Felix Anyansi-Agu has emerged the First Vice-President of the Federation.

Chief Anyansi-Agu coasted to victory ahead of Senator Obinna Ogba.

Chief Anyansi-Agu poled 23 votes as against 8 votes garnered by Senator Ogba

FIFA and CAF Representatives on the ground in Benin City had to consult with the lawbooks to avoid any form of a lacuna.

Until Thursday there were uncertainties surrounding the conduct of the election due to a court injunction that truncated the free flow of the process which came as a result of some misunderstandings between the NFF and the Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria

BattaBox had reported on Thursday, that the football body had appealed the decision of the lower court and was granted authority to carry on with conduct of the elections.
