NFF Appeals to Hold Elective Congress

Amaju Melvin Pinnick, outgone President of the Nigeria Football Federation..

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has filed an appealed that the order of the Federal High Court stopping the Federation from conducting the Elective Congress be set aside.

Former Nigeria International Footballer Tajudeen Disu, younger brother to Nigeria’s veteran manager Tunde Disu, said, “ I have been reliably informed by my friends within the system that these same people at the NFF who say football matters are not taken to the open court and have contrived to flagrantly violate court orders in the past are the same people now seeking redress in the open court, this is interesting”.

The Professional Footballers Association of Nigeria (PFAN) member hinted that the hearing at the appeal court will start by 12pm today, 29th September 2022.

This is in a desperate attempt to hold the 30th September 2022 Elective Congress in Benin, as about 28 delegates are already gathered in the venue.

However, the federation is concerned about the dangers of violating the court orders barring the Congress from holding.

As a result, the body had to resort to implore this eleventh-hour approach to get a respite from the Appeals Court so it will seem not to be violating the law in any way.

Since delegates are already gathered in Benin City, a favourable verdict could still pave the way for the elections to go ahead as scheduled.

BattaBox had earlier reported that the Federation had already invited observers from football world governing body FIFA and the African body CAF to monitor the conduct of the elections either as they would hope to have the Court overturn the decision barring the process from holding before the day set aside for Congress or outrightly intend to go ahead with the entire process with the aim of violating the court injunction.
