2023 Elections: INEC releases approved list of Presidential Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released the final list of candidates and their running mates ahead of the 2023 presidential election. The list contains 18 presidential candidates.

Among these candidates are;

  • Labour Party: Mr. Peter Obi
  • All Progressive Congress: Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu
  • People Democracy Party: Mr. Atiku Abubakar
  • New Nigerian People Party: Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso
  • People Redemption Party: Chief Lateef Kola Abiola

The list also includes the age, qualification, and gender of each listed candidate among others.

Recall that INEC issued the details of nominated candidates for claims and objections in June of last year.

However, after the primary elections, this final list will be applied to conduct the incoming election.

The commission stated that “no withdrawal or substitution of candidates is allowed unless in the event of death as provided in section 34(1) of the Electoral Act or pursuant to an order of a Court of competent jurisdiction.”

According to Tribune Online, while the names on this list have been approved for the upcoming presidential election in 2023, the final list of State elections (Governorship and State Constituencies) will be published on October 4, 2022, as stated on the Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2023 General Election.
