iPhone 7 overview

Five years after its release, the iPhone 7 still ranks as a powerhouse device that outclasses several other newer phones.

While Apple no longer sells it directly, it remains one of the cheapest iPhones you can get, and it is geared with all the modern features you want.

From its durable battery life to its superb camera, fast operating system, and water resistance, its lower price makes it an attractive and entry-level option for those seeking a cheap iPhone.

When it arrived, the iPhone 7 was not all that different from the 6S and felt more like a variant update instead of a whole new device.

That is on the surface, though, because it boasts a brighter, more colorful screen, dual speakers, and a boosted 12MP camera.

Its major talking points, however, are its waterproof design, the home button that Apple changed from a clickable entity to one that responds to pressure, and the lack of a headphone jack.

Before we get into the main purpose of this article, which is to inform you of the iPhone 7 price in Nigeria, let’s check out a few things about the phone.

Weight

As mentioned above, the iPhone 7 (and its upgraded variant the 7 Plus) looks no different from the 6s and 6s Plus, as all have the exact dimensions.

At a height of 138.3mm, width of 67.1mm, and thickness of 7.1mm, it is a pretty slim device.

And with a light 138 grams for the 7 variant and 188 grams for the 7s, they are slightly lighter than previous generation iPhones.

iPhone 7 Screen

The main change that was made to the iPhone 7 is the color and brightness; all other things are identical to the previous generation.

It has the same 4.7-inch 1334 x 750 resolution display, which means there is a lack of sharpness if you hold it side by side with another phone, like the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.

However, this is a negligible issue when using the phone day-to-day, as you still get a decent amount of pixels with the HD resolution on offer.

Hence, movie watching and internet browsing offer a clear, clean, and crisp experience. DisplayMate said the iPhone 7 has the “best LCD” it ever tested, describing it as a “major upgrade” over the 6s.

Also, there is the 3D Touch, an identical system to that on the iPhone 6s that allows the phone to detect the amount of pressure your finger exerts on the screen.

The brightness and white balance of the display are also improved to give an easier look at the screen.

The only issue, however, is the phone’s auto-brightness feature. While other phones are adept at dropping to the lowest possible brightness in the dark to save you from burning out your retinas, the iPhone 7 does not. Or, at least, not as efficiently.

iPhone 7 Speakers and Sound

The phone’s dual speakers that Apple popped in at the cost of the headphone jack are a real upgrade.

The locations at the top and bottom are a little weird since they fire in different directions; however, the sound quality is much better.

They might lack the iPad Pro’s impressive sound quality, but that one has four speakers and extra chambers, so it’s understandable.

And yes, back to the missing headphone jack. According to Apple, the port was axed to make room for better cameras, the Taptic Engine, and leave fewer holes for its water-resistance technology.

In addition, Apple used its elimination to drive the development of wireless headphone technology and the birth of Airpods, which are all the rage right now.

That being said, if you want to use regular headphones with the iPhone 7, you will need to consider using the adapter dongle, or a pair of Bluetooth headphones.

Apple included a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter and Lightning Earpods in each iPhone box to ease the transition.

Camera

So, we’ve been talking about the iPhone 7 all day, and we haven’t discussed the main feature that makes an iPhone an iPhone, which is the camera.

This is another upgrade over the iPhone 6s, with a new and faster 12-megapixel and f/1.8 lens, a new four-color True Tone flash, the addition of optical image stabilization, and wider color capture.

The optical image stabilization and faster lens mean that the 7 outperforms the 6s in low light, but this can only be considered a step improvement, not a significant leap.

The major leap, however, is in the iPhone 7 Plus, which comes with two lenses and sensors instead of the single one found on the 7.

The 7 Plus’s f/1.8 28mm wide angle lens and f/2.8 56mm telephoto lens operate simultaneously, allowing you to switch to a true 2x zoom with just the tap of a button.

You can also zoom the 1x lens to 2x digitally, which allows the telephoto to take over, and then zoom the 2x lens to 10x digitally.

As for the front camera, the iPhone 7 comes with a new 7-megapixel sensor that replaced the 6s’ 5-megapixel.

It does not have as wide an angle as Samsung’s cameras, but it’s still sharp and bright, and the Retina Flash is a bonus.

iPhone 7 Storage and RAM

The Apple iPhone 7 comes with storage capacities of 32GB, 128GB, and 256GB, with different pricing options.

And while 256GB might have seemed like an insane amount of storage worth a few years ago, it is insufficient nowadays.

Luckily, you can pay for iCloud storage to boost your storage capacity.

The iPhone 7, just like the 6s, comes with 2GB of RAM. However, the 7 Plus, with the increased demands of a dual camera and other software upgrades, comes with 3GB RAM.

Battery

The iPhone 7 comes with a 1,960 mAh battery, up to 2,900 mAh in the iPhone 7 Plus. This is an improvement over the 1,715 mAh and 2,750 mAh found in the 6s and 6s plus, respectively.

According to Apple, those upgrading from the 6s to 7 will get an average of 2 additional hours of battery life. Those moving from 6s plus to 7 plus will get an extra hour.

Other features

As mentioned above, one of the major new features of the iPhone 7 is the new Home button.

Apple calls it a “solid-state” button, and it generates haptic feedback from the Taptic Engine to mimic a button press.

The phone’s Taptic Engine is a redesigned and updated version of the one found in the 6s. It is more responsive and works with a wider range of frequencies.

You can choose the level of haptic feedback you want, from light to powerful, with a middle setting available.

Note, though, that iPhone 7 Home button is capacitive, which means it requires proper skin contact or the right kind of capacitive gloves.

Despite the Home button’s redesign, the Touch ID fingerprint sensor is still located there. It comes with a second-generation Touch ID and is as quick as the one found on the 6s.

The phone is water resistant, with a rating of IP67. This means it can stay submerged for up to one meter for 30 minutes.

However, Apple also warns that it should be immediately rinsed in fresh water after contact with salt water. Also, you must dry it out for a few hours before charging.
