What to Know About the Lagos to Ibadan Train

Typically, a Lagos to Ibadan train and vice versa takes about 2 hours and 30 minutes each.

You can expect the journey to take more time with the Abeokuta layovers, though. Therefore, traveling at night would be the most excellent option if you are genuinely stressed about time and want to get there quickly.

On weekdays, the train departs from the Chief Obafemi Awolowo Station in Moniya at precisely 0:01 am and arrives at the Mobola Johnson Station in Ebute Metta, Lagos, at roughly 10:40 am.

However, the morning trip’s departure schedule on weekends is 8:30 am. The evening travel departs from the same station later in the day at 4 pm on weekdays and 6 p.m. on weekends.

On weekdays, the train departs Mobola Johnson Station for the journey from Ibadan to Lagos at 8 am and gets to Moniya by 10 am. The early morning departure on weekends is set for 8:30.

On weekdays and weekends, the evening departure from the Ibadan station is scheduled at 6 pm and 6:30 pm, respectively.

The UTS runs four trips every day as of the said time this article was written. Nonetheless, after the remaining stations are built, this number will rise to 16 daily journeys.

In the absence of heavy traffic, passengers in Ibadan should arrive at the Moniya station, about 20 minutes drive from the Two Road Garage and about 10 minutes drive from the Ojoo Main Park.

  1. There is a limit of one piece of hand baggage.
  2. At the station, you must show a legitimate form of identification (Identification Card). So always ensure you carry yours.
  3. For the purchase of a ticket, only cash is accepted. And as a note of warning, Never transfer to a person you don’t believe in.

Finally, there are no free Lagos to Ibadan train. This, however, only occurred between December 24th, 2021, and January 4th, 2022, when the Nigerian government declared free train service to its citizens.
