Early Life of Lisa Marie Presley

Presley was born on February 1, 1968, the daughter of Elvis and Priscilla Presley at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis in Memphis, Tennessee, nine months to the day after her parent’s wedding. After her parents divorced, she lived with her mother in Los Angeles and frequently stayed with her father at Graceland in Memphis.

Presley’s parents separated when she was four years old. When her father died in August 1977, nine-year-old Presley became joint heir to his estate with her 61-year-old grandfather. Upon the deaths of her grandfather in 1979 and her great-grandmother in 1980, she became Elvis’ sole heir.

On her 25th birthday in 1993, she inherited the estate, which had grown to an estimated $100 million. Presley sold 85 per cent of her father’s estate in 2004.

Musical Career

Elvis Presley released her debut album, To Whom It May Concern, on April 8, 2003. It reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and was certified gold in June 2003. The album’s first single, “Lights Out”, reached No. 18 on the Billboard Hot Adult Top 40 chart and No. 16 on the UK charts.

Presley collaborated with Billy Corgan for a co-written track called “Savior”. Robert Hilburn wrote that the album had a stark, uncompromising tone and that Presley’s gutsy blues-edged voice had a distinctive flair.

Pat Benatar and Presley performed at the VH1 Divas Duets, a concert to benefit the VH1 Save the Music Foundation. Presley contributed a “Silent Night” recording for the NBC Holiday Collection, Sounds of the Season.

Elvis Presley’s second album, “Now What”, was released on April 5, 2005, and reached No. 9 on the Billboard 200 albums chart. The album included covers of Don Henley’s “Dirty Laundry” and the Ramones’ “Here Today and Gone Tomorrow”.

The song “Idiot” is a jab towards different men in her life. The video for “Dirty Laundry” was directed by Patrick Hoelck, and George Michael appeared in it. Presley appeared in the music video for Johnny Cash’s “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” in 2006.

The single “In the Ghetto” was released in August 2007 and reached No. 1 on iTunes sales and No. 16 on Billboard’s Bubbling Under Hot 100 singles chart. It was recorded to commemorate the 30th anniversary of her father’s death, and proceeds from the single benefited a new Presley Place Transitional Housing Campus in New Orleans.

Presley appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show to perform the song with the Harlem Gospel Choir and joined singer Richard Hawley on stage in London in October 2009. In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, Presley said that she was currently recording a new album in London, which was due to be released in 2011.

Lisa Marie Presley released her third album, Storm & Grace, in 2012. It was produced by Oscar and Grammy winner T Bone Burnett and was described as “a stronger, more mature, and more effective work than one might have expected”.

Spinner.com described it as “the strongest album of her career”, and Entertainment Weekly praised the “smoky, spooky” single “You Ain’t Seen Nothing Yet”. In 2018, Presley was featured on the title track of the compilation “Where No One Stands Alone”, a collection of her father’s gospel songs.

The song was reworked into a duet between Presley and her father, and a music video for the song was released in which Presley was incorporated into scenes of her and her father.

Elvis Presley married Chicago-born musician Danny Keough in 1988. They had two children: Riley Keough and Benjamin Storm Keough. Presley obtained a quickie divorce in the Dominican Republic on May 6, 1994.

Benjamin Keough died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on July 12, 2020. On May 26, 1994, 20 days after her divorce from Keough, Presley married singer Michael Jackson.

They had first met in 1974 when a six-year-old Presley attended his concert at the Sahara Tahoe. As child molestation accusations against Jackson became public, Jackson became dependent on Presley for emotional support.

Presley tried to persuade Jackson to settle the allegations out of court and go into rehabilitation to recover. In January 1996, Presley filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. After Jackson’s death in 2009, Presley was reported to have “felt shattered”.

Elvis Presley met musician John Oszajca in 1999 and got engaged to him two days before Christmas. She broke off the engagement in 2001 and married Nicolas Cage in Kamuela, Hawaii, on August 10, 2002. In 2003, Presley commented on reports that she and Danny Keough were planning to remarry.

In 2005, Keough was a bass guitar player in Presley’s band and served as her musical mentor. Presley still regarded him as a close friend, and he lived in the guest house on Presley’s property.

After they separated, Presley described her relationship with Keough as unconditional. Elvis Presley married Michael Lockwood in 2006 in Kyoto, Japan. In 2008, she gave birth to fraternal twin girls, Harper Vivienne Ann Lockwood and Finley Aaron Love Lockwood, via Caesarean section at Los Robles Hospital & Medical Center in Thousand Oaks, California.

Lisa Marie Presley’s Inheritance

Lisa Marie Presley was 9 years old when her father, Elvis died. His estate was worth $5 million at the time of his death, but it shrunk to $1 million after various taxes, fees, and debts were paid down. Priscilla (Lisa’s mother) pioneered the conversion of Graceland (Elvis’ mansion) into a museum and paid off all debtors and owed expenses.

By age 25, Lisa inherited her father’s, which was worth $100 million. Instead of directly inheriting the money, Lisa established a revocable living trust and appointed a business manager named Barry Seigel to manage the funds.

In February 2005, Seigel orchestrated a deal to sell 85% of EPE (Elvis Presley Enterprises), an organization that managed all of Elvis’ image rights and royalties, for $100 million. However, the money dried up between 2005 and 2015 due to Lisa’s excessive spending habits and mismanagement by Seigel and other financial managers.

By 2015, Lisa Marie had fired Barry Siegel and filed a lawsuit against him for allegedly squandering her $100 million fortune and leaving her broke. Barry Siegel claimed that Lisa Marie’s excessive spending habits were the real reason behind the estate’s massive losses.

He also claimed to have had regular business meetings with her, during which he explained the developing situation and reminded her repeatedly to limit her spending.

Lisa Marie countered by pointing out that she had no idea about the condition of her estate and that if Seigel had told her what was really going on, she would have limited her spending and immediately reduced his salary of $700,000. In 2018, court documents from Lisa Marie’s divorce proceedings revealed that she was $16 million in debt.

Michael Lockwood claimed that Lisa was still the beneficiary of a valuable trust worth as much as $65 million. His legal filings claimed that Presley has significant income for purposes of a child support calculation due to continuing and recurring distributions Presley receives from her trust(s) and from the significant assets, including her family business.

Priscilla Presley’s Networth

Priscilla Presley’s net worth is around $50 million. After her divorce from Elvis, she received a $725,000 cash payment, child support, spousal support, 50% of the proceeds from their Beverly Hills house sale, and 5% of income from Elvis’ publishing firms. She also founded the Bis & Beau shop, attracting clients like Diana Ross, Barbra Streisand, and Cher.

Vernon, Lisa Marie, and Elvis’ grandmother, Minnie Mae Presley, were the beneficiaries of Elvis’ trust after his death. Lisa Marie’s inheritance was delayed until her 25th birthday because she was 9 years old when her father died.

Vernon was an executor of Elvis’ will, and Lisa Marie was the beneficiary of her father’s estate. Graceland, Elvis Presley’s famed home, was included in the trust, but care efforts caused Lisa Marie’s trust to dwindle.

Priscilla became the president and chairperson of Elvis Presley Enterprises, as well as a successful international tourist attraction. In a regular year, the estate earns $10 million.
