What is NNPC Scholarship?

The NNPC Scholarship Scheme is an award program that promotes academic excellence in order to improve intellectual quality and enhance development in the country. This is one of the many ways the founding committee demonstrates its commitment to improving the educational sector in Nigeria. The NNPC scholarship scheme occurs once per annum.

Who Founded NNPC Scholarship?

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) and Total Upstream Companies in Nigeria (TUCN) jointly introduced this valuable concept in 2014. For those unaware, Total E&P is a reputable production company handling operations across the globe.

Asides from playing a significant role in the oil and gas sector, they trigger a positive impact in the lives of numerous Nigerians by helping them sustain and finance their education in higher institutions via the scholarship scheme.

Annually, they award scholarships to eligible Nigerian students enrolled in tertiary institutions across the country.

Opportunities are available for all first-year and second-year full-time students irrespective of course of study. NNPC’s goal is to assist brilliant Nigerian students in completing their varsity education.

They provide annual scholarship grants to successful candidates from the year of the award (first year or second year) to the completion of their degree program.

How much does NNPC Scholarship offer each year?

The NNPC Scholarship Scheme awards ₦150,000 per academic year to each eligible candidate. That means if you’re lucky to be selected as a beneficiary, you would gain that amount every year until the moment of your graduation. Rewarding, isn’t it?

Criteria for Eligibility

There are a few details to know when considering an application for NNPC Scholarship. While zeal and discipline are important factors, they might not be enough to grant you a pass if you fall short of the requirements. You must meet the following criteria to be considered for a scholarship award:

1. Be a Registered FULL-TIME undergraduate in a recognized Nigerian University.
2. Be a certified 100 or 200-level student at the time of application
3. Show proof of SSCE or Equivalent Certificate
4. Show proof of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) score
5. Show proof of Admission letter from the University and Matriculation Number
6. Show proof of A-level or Equivalent Certificate (for direct entry students)

However, the following categories of students are NOT qualified to apply for the NNPC scholarship program:

1. Students with a score less than 200 in UTME need not apply
2. Students with less than a 2.50 CGPA on a 5-point scale or equivalent are not eligible
3. 300-level students and above need not apply
4. Current beneficiaries of similar awards from any other Company or Government Agency are also exempted

NNPC Scholarship: How to Apply

These are the trusted ways you can apply for an NNPC scholarship:

1. Visit the NNPC/Total Scholarship Portal
2. Click on Apply for NNPC Scholarship
3. Select the ‘Click Here to Register/Login‘ button
4. Enter your name, date of birth, and permanent home address, then upload your recent passport photograph.
5. Enter your email and mobile phone information. Only use an active email and mobile phone number.
6. Enter your state and local government of origin data. You are required to upload a certificate or proof of origin from your local government or state.
7. Select your university, course, and year of study. You will be required to upload your JAMB/University admission letter.
8. Input your JAMB score or CPGA. You are required to upload your JAMB statement of result and university CPGA. For year two medical students, your JAMB score suffices.
9.  Review your application to ensure all fields have been correctly entered. Upload all the documents required:
   • Recent Passport Photograph
   • Certificate or Proof of Origin
   • Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (SSCE)
   • UTME result
   • JAMB/University Admission Letter
   • 1st Year Result showing CGPA
10. Attest that all info given is true. Accept terms and conditions. An on-screen alert will confirm that you have successfully completed the application. You will receive an email to confirm this too.
11. Select the Captcha box to verify you are not a robot
12. Click on the ‘Register’ button
13. Verify your email address in your mailbox
14. Login to your NNPC/Total Scholarship portal to continue registration

Examination Requirements

Shortlisting candidates for the exam is via the email address for your NNPC scholarship application.

Here is the requirement to write the NNPC Scholarship examination;

1. Your University Student Identity Card (Not a Library Card)
2. A printed copy of the invitation letter that was sent to your email
3. Writing Materials – Biro, Pencil, Sharpener & Eraser
4. You must not bring mobile phones, calculators, and wristwatches to the examination venue.
5. Candidates shall bear the total cost of transportation to and from the selection test venue.
6. Candidates are therefore advised to choose the test centres closest to them, for ease of movement to and from the centre.
7. Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted for the selection test.
