100 Days After Inauguration, Osun Governor, Adeleke Refuses To Constitute Executive CouncilĀ

Three months after Ademola Adeleke was sworn in as the governor of Osun State, he refused to constitute his executive council.

Rather than appoint commissioners, Mr Ademola Adeleke who was sworn in on November 27, 2022, chose to run selected ministries with supervisors.

It appears that his administration is following the antecedent of his predecessors. Recall that former governor, Rauf Aregbesola, refused to appoint commissioners for more than a year due to what he tagged as financial constraints during his second term in office.

Also, the immediate past governor, Gboyega Oyetola did not constitute an executive council for nearly a year.  While the constitution provides for the appointment of commissioners, the governors simply used their discretion to appoint supervisors for some ministries they considered very important.

Meanwhile, legal practitioners who spoke with Battabox said the appointment of supervisors for some ministries is not approved by the law as the constitution only recognizes commissioners not ministries supervisors nor supervising commissioners.

Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson of Governor Adeleke did not respond to inquiries on why his principal is yet to appoint cabinet members.

Sources, however, said the delay may not be disconnected from the ongoing court case over Mr Adelekeā€™s victory in the last governorship poll

A top ally of the governor also said the appointment of commissioners comes with interest as ā€œhe may lose out some persons who may feel that they are not duly represented in the governorā€™s appointment.ā€
