Located at 168, Awolowo road in Ikoyi, the Jazz Hole Lagos is a quaint bookshop, record store and coffee shop. It opened in 1991, just months before the official relocation of the nation’s capital from Lagos to Abuja.

The one-room space, which smells of new books and old records, is decorated with jazz, conga, talking drums and a gramophone. 

What began as a collection of vintage and rare records from glorious bygone eras has evolved into a café and bookshop. It hosts small performances by local and foreign-based Nigerian musicians like Asa, Nneka, and guitarist Keziah Jones.

The Jazz Hole is open from 9 am – 8:30 pm on Mondays through Saturdays and 4:30 – 6:30 pm on Sundays.

Jaekel House, one of the oldest buildings located within the Nigerian Railway Compound Lagos, is recognized as a fine example of colonial-style tropical architecture. Built in 1989, it is a 2-story colonial mansion in Ebute Metta, Lagos, Nigeria. 

Currently, the house serves as a mini-museum to preserve the history of the Nigerian Railway. The house was named after Francis Jaekel who was the superintendent of the Nigerian railway.
