Police State Chairman demands prompt prosecution of Seun Kuti for assaulting a Police Officer

The Police Service Commission, on Sunday, called for the prompt prosecution of Afrobeat Singer, Seun Kuti, for attacking a police officer in uniform who was on official duty in Lagos.

Solomon Arase, chairperson of the Police Service Commission (PSC), praised Usman Baba, the inspector general of police, for giving permission to arrest Seun Kuti for slapping a police officer who was on duty.

In a video that has gone viral on social media, Seun Kutie can be seen charging, slapping and also pushing the policeman on the roadside.

In the statement issued by PSC’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani, Solomon Arase pointed out that no one has the right to attack a police officer who is carrying out his duties.

He also praised the police officer for his ability to resist despite the provocation from Seun Kuti.

Police Service Commission’s spokesman, Ikechukwu Ani in his own words said;

“We must, as civilized people, explore established channels of complaints against alleged infractions by law enforcement officials rather than this uncouth behaviour of assaulting the country’s symbol of authority. We look forward to the prompt prosecution of Kuti to act as a deterrent to others,”

Meanwhile, the Lagos State Police Command has responded to Peter Okoye’s comment on Seun Kuti’s recent altercation with a police officer.

On Saturday, Seun Kuti, the son of the late Afrobeat legend Fela Kuti, allegedly slapped a police officer after his vehicle was stopped on the Third Mainland Bridge.

The Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, condemned the assault and ordered the arrest and prosecution of Seun.
