The Cute Abiola Biography: Net worth, Rank in Navy, Wife, and Side Chick

When making a skit, The Cute Abiola follows a laid-down process. “When I come up with an idea, a concept, I write it down,” he said.

“I used to pay script writers, but now I love to deliver my story myself. That is why I write the script myself. I will call my production manager and share the idea of the whole concept with him.

“I will then choose the cast for the shoot and speak with them about the concept. After shooting it, I wait for the editor to deliver the video. Then it will be uploaded.”

However, he left out a vital part: Brevity, aka Keep it short. Most times, The Cute Abiola and some of his colleagues ignore the saying “brevity is the soul of wit” and bore their viewers to death.

It’s crucial to keep your skit short. You can lose the humour in case you drag it on for too long. A fast-paced script that ends quickly is easier to keep the viewers engaged than a skit that stops being funny because the joke has run its course. Let’s stop the sermon before Lawyer Kunle sues us in court.

We present The Cute Abiola’s biography.

“Well done o, Mr & Mrs Brevity”, The Cute Abiola seems to tell us

The Cute Abiola: Birth

Abdulgafar Ahmad Abiola, aka The Cute Abiola, was born on April 28th 1996, in Ilorin, Kwara State. He’s the only child of his mother, but he may have had other siblings through his father.

Don’t see us as lazy investigators using “he may have had” instead of being specific and tracing the genealogy of The Cute Abiola. Forgive us our press passes, we are not Sherlock Holmes!

The Cute Abiola’s Age

The skit maker would celebrate his 27th year on earth on his next birthday. His fans in Canada may likely not celebrate with him as that day is observed as the National Day of Mourning or Workers’ Mourning Day.

The day commemorates workers who have been killed, injured, or suffered illness because of workplace exposures and occupational hazards.

Shall we tell the minister of labour and employment here?

The Cute Abiola: Education

He spent his first 18 years in Ilorin, so it’s a no-brainer that his nursery, primary, and secondary schools were in that city. We don’t know the identity of those schools, but afterwards, The Cute Abiola attended Kwara State Polytechnic, where he studied Marketing.

The Cute Abiola’s Career

His forage into performance art started when he was in secondary school. After school, he kept at it, creating skits and sharing them on Facebook. He started off using his cell phone to take video selfies and post them online.

The Cute Abiola switched to using a camera, which gave his output a professional touch. He would then upload the videos and photographs, hoping viewers would hit the click and share buttons.

They paid little attention to his efforts, and he almost called it quits. A major turnaround, however, came when he made a video supporting Bisola, a reality TV star, in the 2015 Big Brother show. This shot him into the limelight, and he has not looked back since then.

The Cute Abiola has won several prizes, including the 2019 MAYA Awards Africa for Best Online Comedy Award. His hilarious and not-so-hilarious skits are shared on his Instagram account (with 5 million followers), Twitter (with 112,000 followers), and YouTube channel (with 369, 000 subscribers and 277 videos).

The Cute Abiola doing what he knows best

A lot goes on behind the scene before the upload of those videos. It might not be so bad that a National Day of Occupational Hazard will be observed for the challenges. However, it’s worth recalling.

“The challenges for me have to do with the people I invite to take part in my skits,” he said.

“You invite some people for a shoot, and you have to wait endlessly for them to turn up, even as you have other things to do. But you have no choice but to wait till they show up. Also, when the videographer refuses to release your videos as soon as possible, those are the things I can call challenges.”

The Cute Abiola is widely recognized for his portrayal of Lawyer Kunle in his comedy skits. But one wonders why the attraction to the legal profession is.

“You know, everyone has a childhood dream,” he said.

“Mine was to become a lawyer. Unfortunately, I didn’t meet the JAMB cut-off mark. So I couldn’t study law. My post-UME result wasn’t good enough. I had to change from a university to a polytechnic. That was how I forgot my childhood dream.

“I had to think of the next thing that came naturally to me, something that could easily replace my desire to study law. The only thing that really came to mind was acting. That gave birth to a skit presentation.

“Although I started comedy in secondary school, my first performance was in 2009. I couldn’t get help when I started, but social media helped me to showcase my talent.”

In our intro, we bemoaned long and boring skits. We deliberately left out our opinion concerning the proliferation of online comedy skits and the accusations of shallow content to an insider like The Cute Abiola.

“There are two sides to this,” he said.

“Some went into comedy because that is the trend and path people are treading, especially with the inordinate unemployment statistics. As there are those making money through adverts, buying cars and flaunting on social their expensive lifestyles, it is only normal that many are considering it.

However, I am into comedy because of the passion I have for it. When I was in school, I had a passion for it. I loved making people laugh, and it wasn’t for the money when I started.

“I was doing it for passion and love, but as time passed and I progressed, I had people requesting my account number in appreciation of what I had done. The first money I received was N10,000, and that was in 2016. Thank God for the journey so far, but I can’t deny that the prospect of money lured many into comedy.”

We reckon shallow content creators should divert their attention to doing something else. No?

“Not necessarily. I would advise them to keep going,” he said.

“They should continue as they can create a fan base for themselves if they can be consistent with what they are doing, even if everything seems uninteresting now. They should also be creative; they need to have a lot of content because people won’t get tired if they produce relevant content.”

For sure, we all will pick relevant over shallow content. But relevant and shallow may be a hard sell to most of us.

When Did The Cute Abiola Join the Navy?

Always looking Cute!

He enrolled in the Nigerian Navy training school as a cadet officer in 2018. As regards his rank in the Navy, The Cute Abiola is an Ordinary Rating. It’s the lowest level in the Nigerian Navy’s ship deck crew. If he were to be in the Nigeria Police Force, he would have been a recruit.

But how was he able to manage his time in uniform with arms and on mufti with a camera?

“I manage my time very well,” he said.

“Go to work from Monday to Friday. I use Saturday and Sunday to make my comedy skits, and I break them into bits that I release weekly so that I don’t run out of comedy skits to post.”

He, however, ran foul of the social media policy of the Navy. The policy seeks to prevent the use of social media platforms without restraint by military personnel. It has implications for the military-related social media activities of friends and families of members of the armed forces.

On November 14th, 2021, he was arrested and detained after posting a video of himself in uniform on social media to celebrate his birthday. The Navy released The Cute Abiola in December after he faced trial and supervised manual labour in the barracks.

However, he’s no stranger to controversies. In April 2020, The Cute Abiola was arrested by the Navy for a similar offence. He was released on May 4th.

The Cute Abiola and the Navy were fast becoming an odd couple, and a parting of ways was imminent. It came as no surprise when the comedian announced his exit on November 5th, 2022. The news came hours after the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, appointed him as his Special Assistant in Creative Industries.

“I was overwhelmed by the approval of my exit from the Navy by the Chief of Naval Staff to have enough time to pursue my dreams passionately. This singular act of the Chief of Naval Staff is terrific, and it shows how the Navy is very passionate about the dreams of their officers,” he said.

According to him, serving in the Navy helped instil in him the discipline needed to have a successful life.

“I deeply appreciate the Nigerian Navy for giving me the unique opportunity to imbibe discipline through a regimented procedure in the areas of career development, moral values, and work ethics, to mention but a few. I can dauntlessly say that I have the required intelligence and human development finesse to continue to live a prosperous life,” he said.

“Sincerely, the Nigerian Navy has become my roadmap to a sustainable career path. I am still a part of the Nigerian Navy family, and I promise to continue positively representing the Nigerian Navy in Nigeria or abroad. I am proud to have served in such an institution as the Nigerian Navy.”

The Cute Abiola’s Marital status

He’s married to one Kudirat Mosunmola. On May 28th, 2021, the couple married in a private ceremony in Ogbomosho, Oyo State. This was at about the same time the rumour mill was agog that he was in a relationship with his colleague, Adedamola Adewale Rukayat, popularly known as Adeherself.

“She is my sister,” he screamed.

“I can’t really remember what happened. I have forgotten about it. And I don’t think there is anything to remember about it in the first place. The only thing I can say is that she is my sister. We are still going to work together.

“That fans have seen nothing from us does not make us enemies. No, that is not true. I appreciate my fans, and I am grateful for their support. They should be on the lookout for the work that we will soon put out.”

When the going was good: Adeherself and The Cute Abiola himself!

What’s journalism without probing? So, asking someone who married at 25, “were you pressured to marry early” is not out of place.

“Do you know my age?” The Cute Abiola replied rhetorically, not looking so cute.

“The thing is that, if I actually had a younger brother or sister, by the time you see the person, you will know that I am not as young as people think. I used to tell people that maybe because I am an only child, that is why I look very young. I like the fact that people are confused about my age.

“Don’t you think it is a wonderful thing? That is how I will continue to look young forever. By the time I am 50, some people will think I am still in my thirties. That is actually unique, and I love it. I am enjoying it.

“A young man should marry me at the age I married. I was ripe for marriage before I ventured into it. Let me keep them guessing, then. Thank God my wife is taking good care of me. I will continue to look young and keep getting them confused.”

His outburst was more confusing, though.

Conclusion

The Cute Abiola got his funny nature from his father.

“My dad is extremely funny. He is funny to a fault. So, I got the funny side of him,”.

But do not despair if your father cuts the public image of Sani Abacha. The Cute Abiola has some encouraging words for you.

“You should be different,” he said.

“You can do their skits copying no one’s concept. Be creative. When you are creative, many people will embrace what you do. People will definitely love you for who you are. You have to be patient, too.

“It takes a lot of effort and hard work to break even. Once you don’t give up on your dreams, the sky is your limit. Skit-making requires persistence. You should keep at it. You will be known soon and start reaping the reward of your hard work.”

Can we get a resounding Amen to that?
