President Bola Tinubu: Blessing or Curse?

What can we expect from President Bola Tinubu?

While many will likely have a thing or two to say on the matter, let us forgo baseless bias and look at the logical facts.

Who Is Bola Ahmed Tinubu?

Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu (born 29 March 1952) is a Nigerian accountant and politician who served as the Governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007. In June 2022, he became the All Progressives Congress nominee in the 2023 Nigerian presidential election.

With the 2023 elections inbound, a number of Nigerians have thrown in their lot and pronounced their support for Jagaban, maintaining the idea that he is the best choice for Nigeria.

Support For President Bola Tinubu

The following factors account for the majority of the support behind Tinubu’s campaign:

Oga Feminist

A political advocacy group, Tinubu Support Organisation, has given reasons why the former Lagos Governor and Senator should be Nigeria’s next president.

Speaking at a news conference in Lagos, Fatima Bello, the group’s president, said the All Progressives Congress’s national leader had a good vision for the country, particularly the womenfolk.

“While most people are aware of Tinubu’s qualities, few are aware of his love for gender equality and equity. This is one of the values that has endeared him to us in women’s circles. A lot of women are suffering out there. We are pushing for Tinubu because he has so much passion for women. Tinubu answers women first. He cannot even stand to see a woman cry.”

Similarly, Raliat Abdulsalam, Vice President of the Central Women Wing, asserted that Tinubu was an exemplary leader. She said Tinubu was a leader not known to be tribalistic.

“He has supported people from the North. He has supported people from the south, and he is not greedy for power. Tinubu built people that are still in power today. Most important, Tinubu is sympathetic toward the women’s cause. He supports women every time. This dream will come to pass because we have seen a man with a vision; someone that can lead us and help us to survive. We will back him up whenever he decides to run for president because we have seen the sign of a true leader in him.”

Better Economic Viability

Look at Lagos State where Tinubu’s political influence is claimed to be overbearing. To quote an independent source:

“Although it covers only 0.4% of Nigeria’s territorial landmass, making it the smallest state in the country, (Lagos) accounts for over 60% of industrial and commercial activities in the nation. Lagos is financially viable, generating over 75% of its revenue independent of federal grants derived from oil revenues. It generates the highest internal revenue of all states in Nigeria.”

If Lagos was a country, its projected 2020 GDP of over $100 billion would make it the fifth-largest economy in Africa.

For the sake of an even clearer perspective, Lagos State’s Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), in the years of Tinubu’s so-called over-bearing politics, has grown consistently to around N33 billion today. The same Lagos had a miserly IGR of around N7 million under the military in 1999. The year Tinubu became the executive governor.

So perhaps, we can expect some level of economic growth with Tinubu as President. If he can transform Lagos, he can definitely transform Nigeria. At least he’s not like the one saying that because he has wives from all three of Nigeria’s major ethnic groups, he can make Nigeria happy.

Such an ignorant comment, to say the least, but let’s not go there.

Ridicule For President Bola Tinubu

No one denies that Tinubu has staunch supporters, those who truly believe he will do well as President. But there are voices that say otherwise, that Tinubu as President will most likely have catastrophic results.

People en masse have aired their sentiments on social media. They say Jagaban is rather ancient and unstable to lead himself, much less a country. They say that to him, the presidency title is more an accessory than a responsibility. That means he only wants the presidency as a crowning achievement to his reign, not because he cares for the motherland.

As if that isn’t enough, Jagaban may have proven the veracity of these allegations in a series of gaffes that I will share with you now.

“Town hall, Different From Balablu”

I’m guessing you don’t know what that means. Well, neither did many other Nigerians when Tinubu said it. All I know is you can watch the video yourself and see your possibly-future president at work.

@ifeanyidibie619

Tinubu barely does interviews & attend political events, but when he does, his public statements are either ¤ffensive or meaning!ess; Not surprised about the “baba blue, blue blue, holaba” speech, it’s just sh@mefu! that some Nigerians are too b!ind to see he’s unf!t to contest.

History With Narcotics

There are certain allegations that Tinubu was once (probably still is) the James St. Patrick of Lagos, pushing all sorts of hard drugs behind the scenes. Of course, they say old habits die hard, so you can imagine what the future might hold for your children should Tinubu become the next President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Microphone Blowjob

During one of Tinubu’s rallies where he was asked to give a speech, someone asked Tinubu to test the microphone and his greatest idea was to give it a tongue bath.

I don’t know where the ideas come from, people, but it is not my place to judge.

Increase In Terrorism and Criminality

Many believe that Jagaban was somewhat of a menace in the old days and that he’s behind many of the illicit activities that occur in the underbelly of Lagos State. Undue extortion, hardships, and oppression are but a few of the trademarks of his rule. The political party he represents is the reason behind the EndSars protests.

For this reason, many are terrified of what might happen if Tinubu gets to sit at Aso Rock.

As Old As Time

tinubu as president
I have no words

If you’re not new to “politics” Twitter, you might have seen that video where a particular presidential candidate was doing some reps on a treadmill. A ploy to show Nigerians that he is not as frail and fragile as we think. Of course, this took quite an unexpected turn as many Nigerians stormed social media to express their discontent and disgust at such a brazen and futile attempt to portray Tinubu as fit when he is anything but.
