Toyin Abraham Age: Biography, Net worth, Husband, and What’s in a Name

Toyin Abraham will look at herself in the mirror for signs of lines on her forehead, wrinkles around the eyes, lines around the mouth, fat below the chin, and general sagging of the skin. She might not see those common signs of ageing on her face, but she continues to stare while wondering why ‘How old is Toyin Abraham?’ and ‘Toyin Abraham’s Age’ constitute 33.333 per cent of the Google search for her.

We can’t say for sure why it’s so. Toyin Abraham is just 40, but it seems her fans reckon her biological age doesn’t match her chronological age. We don’t know which formula they used to arrive at a conclusion.

But to address the ‘problem’ head-on, Toyin Abraham needs to be aware of which habits are prematurely setting off this process of ‘decline’. Because when it comes to ageing beautifully, prevention is better than treatment. However, most people are unaware that a lot of what we do daily is ageing our skin faster.

We are not experts, but here’s a not-to-do-list Toyin Abraham needs to adhere to…

Unhealthy eating

Sedentary lifestyle

Poor sleep quality

Sleep position

Constant use of electronic devices

Dehydrated and dry skin

So, what happens when she doesn’t do anything about it? Well, nothing, really. Only that the search will go from 33.333 to 99.999 per cent!

“Do I look older than my age?” Toyin Abraham ‘asks’

We present Toyin Abraham’s biography.

Toyin Abraham: Birth

Toyin Abraham was born on September 5th 1982, in Auchi, Edo State. However, she grew up in Ibadan, Oyo State. She was formerly known as Toyin Aimakhu but changed her surname to Abraham in 2016. At first, it was a family decision to change the name, but she resisted because of her brand.

When William Shakespeare asked, “What’s in a name?” in Romeo and Juliet, he was referring to the idea that names themselves are a convention to distinguish people or things, but they do not have any worth or meaning. With her name connected to the controversial events associated with her in the recent past, Toyin Abraham will not agree with the Bard.

According to the actress, a pastor instructed her to change her surname.

“My dad’s family name is Aimakhu, short for Aimakhume, which means ‘you’re just chasing me for nothing’,” she said.

“People told us to change it a very long time ago, but I didn’t listen. I had started acting with it. One day, a vision came. A pastor from CAC told my mum to tell me to change the name. The pastor said the name was not good as it would make people have beef with me for no reason. And that was something that used to happen a lot.”

She finally made the decision to go with the family’s choice.

“Changing my name signified a fresh start,” she said.

“Toyin Abraham is a different and better brand, and I’m here to say and break new grounds.”

Toyin Abraham: Education

Toyin Abraham attended Queen’s Staff School and later moved on to St. Anne’s School, both in Ibadan. She went to Iree Polytechnic in Osun State for a national diploma in Business Studies. Later on, she got a philosophy degree from Olabisi Onabanjo University.

Toyin Abraham fell in love with marketing and didn’t mind going back for another OND in the course at Iree Polytechnic. She then went to The Polytechnic Ibadan for an HND in marketing. And she would have chosen marketing as a career if acting hadn’t ‘captured’ her.

“I like to think my mouth is sugar-coated enough to sell,” she said.

“Again, I am a very friendly person who likes to meet new people, and marketing will give me that opportunity.”

Toyin Abraham’s Career

Toyin Abraham started acting in 2003 when Bukky Wright came to Ibadan to shoot a movie. While she was helping out on set, her assistance was needed to fill in for an absent actress.

“I was not there to act,” she said.

“I just went there to help out, but I acted well, and I was paid.”

Since her introduction to the movie industry, she has grown into an actress and producer. Toyin Abraham has made, directed, and starred in several movies, including Alani Baba Labake, Ebimi ni, and the Alakada series.

Toyin Abraham in Alakada Reloaded

Toyin Abraham featured in and directed Alakada, Fate of Alakada, and Alakada Reloaded. The third in the series reportedly grossed N25 million in three days.

“The story idea was inspired by our environment,” she said.

“The whole fake life that a lot of people seem to be living now; lying and living a lie. So, I just decided to tell a story of a girl that represents this set of people.”

With premieres in London and Lagos, Toyin Abraham credited the growth of the franchise to God.

“Sincerely, I am overwhelmed by the franchise and how far it has gone. It honestly went beyond my expectations. It’s bigger than me now, and I thank God.”

Although she had no formal or informal training in the field before her first break, she said one of the unique factors that aided her career so far is what she has experienced in life.

“I didn’t have a privileged childhood,” she said.

“So, growing up, I had to do different things to make ends meet, and all these experiences have helped to shape me into who I am. The experience of my past helps a lot in many of the roles I play.”

Toyin Abraham’s interest in acting grew from her love for plays that were shown on TV stations while she was young. Though her parents preferred her schooling, she found a way of making both schooling and acting work. And her love for acting made her stick to it.

“I love the fact that for every role or character I play, I get to be another person, and that is so exciting.”

It was really so exciting for her because, as an actress, she could be a physiotherapist. A job she fancied back then.

“I just really loved it then,” she said.

“Well, the interesting part of being an actress is that any day now, I could be playing the role of a physiotherapist.”

There was a time in her life she needed the services of another practitioner in another medical field – a psychiatrist. She battled depression and drugs. And she almost lost her mind.

“Depression came as a result of the surrounding negativities at that time,” she said.

“I didn’t plan for a broken marriage, and after the marriage ended, I was down, and I didn’t give myself enough time to heal before jumping into another relationship.”

She lost touch with reality, and things spiralled out of control. She was no longer in control of her life.

“So, when a friend introduced me to drugs, I embraced it and tried to find solace with it,” she said.

Toyin Abraham didn’t wallow in self-pity for long. Rather, she snatched back her life.

“It was an awakening,” she said.

“I realized I deserve more, and that I needed to keep looking at the bigger picture. So, I sought help. I changed my team and the surrounding people. I changed some of my friends, too and here I am today. All in all, I thank God for the grace and for a new me.”

The new Toyin Abraham now has a more balanced life.

“I decide what to do and what not to do. What job to take on or not,” she said.

“So, my schedule is in my hands. I have decided to channel all my positive energy into my work, and it has been working for me.”
