BREAKING: UNILAG Gets First Female VC (Photos)

Professor of Microbiology at the College of Medicine, Prof Folasade Ogunsola has emerged the first female Vice Chancellor of University of Lagos (UNILAG).

Folasade is the first female Vice Chancellor of UNILAG in 50 years.

Her announcement as UNILAG’s 13th substantive VC was made on Friday night, October 7.

She emerged the favourite for the job among the seven shortlisted candidates for the institution’s vice chancellor role.

Other candidates shortlisted include: Professors Abayomi Akinyeye of the Department of History, Faculty of Arts; Mathew Ilori and Adeyinka Adekunle both of the Faculty of Sciences; Imran Smith of the Faculty of Law; Timothy Nubi of the Department of Estate Management at the Faculty of Environmental Sciences; and Ayo Olowe of the Faculty of Management Sciences.

Prof Folasade will succeed Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe after his five-year tenure elapses in November.
