Patience Ozokwor, a seasoned Nollywood actress, had some words of wisdom to share with aspiring actors and performers.

The 64-year-old actress advised younger colleagues that they didn’t need to move to Lagos or Abuja to succeed.

She made the statement at a candlelight vigil in remembrance of Peace Anyiam-Osigwe, creator of the Africa Movie Academy Awards.

She urged them to give up the notion that they needed to reside in either state in order to become well-known in Nollywood.

I stayed back in Enugu

The thespian claimed that some performers and actresses started out in the east but relocated to the west. This decision caused them to lose sight of their origins.

Using herself as an example, she said:

“For me, I said I am going to stay in Enugu, inside the village and when I go to Lagos, I tell them I am a village woman.

“I stay at Ngwo in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State and God has shown me that you can become a star from anywhere. You don’t need to be in Lagos or Abuja”.

“If you are good enough, they will call you even from America.”
