Nigerian university reacts to rumour of student impregnating female lecturer

The Federal University Lafia has dismissed a report claiming that a student was expelled after he impregnated a female lecturer in the institution.

The rumour which emanated circulated on social media claimed that the disciplinary committee of the Institution rusticated an undergraduate student of the university for inappropriate behaviour.

One Haruna Braimoh shared the rumour on micro-blogging platform, Twitter, on November, 28.

“Federal University Lafia expel student for impregnating a female lecturer. Things dey happen for this Nassarawa Republic sha,” he tweeted.

The rumour threw social media into a frenzy prompting the university authority to address the issue.

It Is Fake News – School Management Debunk Report

However, the management of Federal University Lafia (FULafia) in Nasarawa state, in a swift response, debunked the news, according to a report by Daily Trust.

In a statement, the Head, Information and Public Relations Department of the university, Abubakar Ibrahim, described the report as fake news.

He said, “The attention of the Management of Federal University of Lafia (FULafia) has been drawn to a story which has gone viral on the social media to the effect that one “Kelvin,” said to be a student of Computer Science Department of FULafia, has impregnated a lecturer of the department.

“This story cannot be further away from falsehood. Therefore, the management wishes to state categorically that the story is nothing but a fabrication by the writer, mischievous and aimed at destroying the good image and reputation of Federal University of Lafia because no such incident has happened in the university.

The general public is hereby advised to disregard the purported story. The Management of Federal University of Lafia will continue to maintain high moral standard in the university.”
