‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ Premiere, in Nigeria

Disney/Black Marvel’s Panther, Wakanda Forever began its promotional tour on Sunday night (6th November 2022) with a landmark premiere in Lagos, Nigeria.

This was a big deal, and undoubtedly the first time a Marvel movie had a local premiere.

A lot of celebrities, film producers, and the press were present for the black carpet rollout. The sequel to the original movie, which earned over $1 billion worldwide, will be shown on several screens at Filmhouse Cinemas IMAX Lekki.

On Sunday, the cast members Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Michaela Coel, and Winston Duke were also present.

Along with soundtrack composers and performers, Nate Moore was also there.

The group has been touring, making their European début at Cineworld Leicester Square in London this past week and having a world premiere in Los Angeles.

The film’s African roots were honoured at the Nigerian premiere, which was organized in collaboration with FilmOne Entertainment and the Africa International Film Festival (AFRIFF).

Coogler delivered a masterclass at AFRIFF on Monday, which was founded by Chioma Ude and it currently runs from November 6–12.

Ude recently discussed the significance of the African premiere being held in Nigeria and its connection to the festival.

She expressed her joy and satisfaction at taking part in the historic African film debut in a report.

“This is significant for the African continent because it represents for us a further bridging of the boundaries between the international film industry”, she said.

In both East and West Africa, the original Black Panther movie continues to be the top choice. Johannesburg, South Africa, hosted its world debut in 2018.

FilmOne Entertainment, whose co-founders Moses Babatope and Kene Okwuosa, distributes Wakanda Forever in English-speaking West African countries. They said:

“Being instrumental to the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in West Africa is a proud achievement and a milestone for us and the entire FilmOne team, it will be celebrated for a long time.”

Black Panther Wakanda Forever Premiere Review

The MCU film Black Panther received positive reviews from critics and viewers when it originally debuted in theatres.

It was a huge success that finally resulted in nominations for several Academy Awards, including Best Picture, as well as winning some.

It was clear that Chadwick Boseman was starting T’Challa/Black Panther off on a very successful run.

Unfortunately, a calamity robbed this amazing gift from us too soon. How can you survive a loss of that magnitude as a franchise?

You may always take a cue from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever if you wish to showcase a well-produced, sentimental, exciting, and potent continuation.

It is not only a wonderful continuation of the first book but also a heartfelt homage.

In Wakanda, there has been complete chaos. It has left this lovely region without its defender.

Shuri (Letitia Wright) and her mother Ramonda (Angela Bassett) must figure out a means to defend the revered country without the Black Panther.

They need to find a solution to protect their natural resource while dealing with their loss and the impending threat posed by other world leaders.

However, when a friendly representative shows up and shares information about his relationship with the priceless metal, they learn that unforeseen perils could strike right at home.

Shuri, Ramonda, and their allies must protect Wakanda from avarice, disorder, and devastation. It’s challenging to discuss the plot of Wakanda Forever. There are still clear spoilers for the majority of movie lovers.

I decided to concentrate on how the movie gives this amazing narrative an emotional depth rather than discussing the roles the actors play and how the story develops. Overall, the title sequence is exquisite.

In addition to successfully bringing the audience back into the action, Ryan Coogler also gives a character one of the most creative homages I’ve ever seen. Even the Marvel logo at the start will make you laugh and cry.

It’s a brave and exciting beginning to a movie that captivates with good action but also with a touch of humanity.

It’s a stunning achievement. Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, and Florence Kasumba deliver the heat in terms of performances.

Wright and Bassett are a powerhouse, even though the entire cast is fantastic. The two give outstanding performances that have depth and gravitas.

It’s wonderful to see Letitia’s outstanding work both here and in the outstanding Silent Twins from this year.

In Wakanda Forever, she has the opportunity to grow and it’s fun to watch. Martin Freeman makes a comedic comeback as Everett K. Ross as well, and he does so with ease.

In his portrayal of Namor, Tenoch Huerta likewise combines a thrilling amount of humanity with a dash of wrath.

In addition to the unexpectedly deep character development, Wakanda Forever has gorgeous visuals.

Coogler and his crew create a beautiful canvas, depicting everything from the wonders of Wakanda to the globe under the reign of Namor.

Amazing effects that maybe even slightly outperform the previous movie. However, Coogler and Joe Robert Cole’s script, which continues the plot brilliantly despite being incredibly difficult to write, is equally as important.

One of the best MCU chapters in history, Wakanda is a deep, brave, and epic adventure. Not just as a brilliant follow-up, but also as a fantastic standalone film.

It helps that the soundtrack is just as significant as the drama it supports, in addition to the excellent actors, story, and production.

A gloomy and captivating score by Ludwig Göransson is created, perfectly complementing Ryan Coogler’s vision.

You might have already heard “Lift Me Up,” a song by Rihanna that is making a comeback to the music scene and is certain to garner Academy Award recognition.

Wakanda Forever’s amazing music and visuals make it simple to overlook its lengthy running time of about two hours and forty-five minutes. The fact that the mid-credits scene is charming and memorable also helps.

Among the MCU movies, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is perhaps one of my favourites. And without a question, it ranks among my top movies of the year.

The producers accepted the challenge with honesty and inspiration rather than adhering to the same evident formula.

Wakanda is one of the most forthright and moving odes to an actor I’ve ever had the pleasure of seeing.

It’s not just a great sequel. Despite being deeply moving, the adventure and passion are visible.

I am eagerly anticipating the next piece of Marvel’s saga because Ryan Coogler has created an excellent and thrilling new chapter.

AFRIFF’s founder, Chioma Ude, had the following to say about the premiere’s hosting in Nigeria and its connection to the event:
