Why I aborted at 19, 24 – BBNaija’s Phyna reveals

Winner of Big Brother Naija season seven, Josephine Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, explained why she had terminated two pregnancies.

The reality TV star recently caused a stir on the internet after she openly declared on Twitter that she had an abortion twice.

This public revelation had however been criticized by many while others questioned about her reasons for doing so.

To clarify things, Phyna gave an interview with Punch, where she positioned that her age and upbringing are the major influencing factors for her choice.

The beauty queen claimed that 98 percent of Nigerian women have had abortions and asked not to be judged by anyone, as she was inexperienced at that time.

Phyna revealed that she had the first abortion at 19 and the second when she was 24, after her service year.

“I was ready to keep it but the relationship was getting toxic. He abused me and always beat me up,” she pointed out as a reason to have ended the relationship and gotten rid of her pregnancy.

Phyna also shared that she would have made better decisions if faced with the same circumstance at this time because she now has the capability to take care of even 10 children if she desires it.

“But because I knew I was from a very poor background, we used to eat once a day then, especially in the afternoon, and then carry it till the next day. So, keeping the baby then, was no option for me.” She added.
