AKWA UTD TARGETS VICTORIOUS OUTING IN NEW EKET STADIUM

Eket bubbles as Akwa United hosts Katsina Utd at the new Eket 18,000-capacity stadium on Friday, September 30th, 2022.

The commissioning of the stadium will also hold to mark the 35th-anniversary celebration of Akwa Ibom and seven years of Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration.

According to the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Udom Emmanuel on Sports and Chairman, Elder Paul Bassey, “The decision to open the Eket Stadium with a match against Katsina United is symbolic and historic.

He said, “The two states have a lot in common. Apart from being created the same day, the government of both states have over the years established and maintained a good working relationship in different sectors of governance and human development”.

With one league title (NPFL champions 2021), two FA Cups (2015 & 2017) as well as the Super Cup crown (2016), the Promise Keepers will file out with confidence having never lost to Katsina United in their last eight meetings on Akwa Ibom soil.

Akwa United’s most decorated player and captain Ubong Friday will be aiming to lead his teammates to yet another victorious outing in front of Governor Udom Emmanuel and the entire football lovers in the state as well as all invited guests.

Head Coach of Akwa United Ayodeji Ayeni will use the friendly game to further assess the performances of new players who have joined the team ahead of the next football season.

Kick-off is slated for four O’clock in the afternoon and the match will be shown live to a large television audience.
