Anthony Joshua anticipates a bout with Tyson Fury, promising it’ll happen soon

Anthony Joshua has disclosed that a clash with Tyson Fury is in the works and is slated to happen ‘sooner rather than later’.

The proposed match has been hailed as the biggest spectacle in British boxing history, with fans eagerly anticipating the collision of the two heavyweights inside the ring.

However, various other bouts for both fighters have intervened, while Anthony Joshua has faced several setbacks, including a loss to Andy Ruiz Jr and consecutive defeats to Fury’s upcoming opponent, Oleksandr Usyk.

Anthony Joshua, appearing as a guest on Good Morning Britain, was questioned about the possibility of a showdown between him and Fury.

In response, he informed co-host Susanna Reid, ‘It is the golden question, I’d say sooner rather than later. It’s in the pipeline, it’s been bubbling for a long time and it has to happen. We are with you guys. We’re talking about it, it’s definitely going to happen sooner rather than later – mark my words.’

When pressed for further details on what he meant by the fight being in the pipeline, he elaborated, ‘Not in depth like that (finding a location and date for the fight) but there’s a map. For example, someone would say ‘these are the checkpoints’ and if I can complete these checkpoints then Fury’s part of my journey and I’m part of his I’m sure as well – it would be silly not to.’

Anthony Joshua’s next checkpoint is a bout against former UFC star Francis Ngannou in Saudi Arabia on Friday.

Ngannou poses a potentially dangerous challenge after almost causing an upset against Fury back in October. Despite being knocked down, Fury was declared the winner in a controversial split decision outcome.

Fury is set to enter the ring next for his delayed heavyweight unification showdown with Usyk on May 18.

Joshua recently crossed paths with Fury’s father, John, in Riyadh, ahead of his fight with Ngannou.

When asked on GMB whether John also desired the fight to materialize, Anthony Joshua commented, ‘I didn’t speak to him about it but I’m sure he does (want the fight) because as someone who is in the fight business, it’s just us going to work. It’s an opportunity to work and this is what we do for our livelihoods. I’m sure he’s advising Fury to get in the ring, it’s a great fight, lets see who is the best of Great Britain and for the public it would be amazing.’
