ASUU Half Salary: Lecturers Begin Protest Days After Suspended Strike

The Academic Staff Union Of Universities, ASUU has reportedly commenced protest over the half-salary received from the FG in October 2022.

The union which started its protest today, Tuesday, November 15, declared lecture-free days across the country to show discontent toward the Nigerian government.

ASUU earlier warned the government against treating the lecturers like casual staff after the union noticed they were being paid a half-month salary.

The federal government defended ASUU’s claim and noted that the lecturers were paid in pro rata – the number of days the lecturers worked in October.

Recall that ASUU recently suspended its eight-month-long industrial action on October 14, 2022, after many failed dialogues with the federal government.

The National Executive Council (NEC) of the union truncated a ploy by some members of the union to embark on another strike on Monday, October 31 (last week).

ASUU president, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, reportedly confirmed the protest and lecturer-free days.

He made this known on Monday, November 14 as every branch across the country is set to pick its date.

According to credible sources, the University of Lagos branch plans to embark on its protest today, Tuesday, November 15.
