JUST IN: Buhari Swears Ariwoola In As CJN

President Muhammadu Buhari has reportedly sworn Justice Olukayode Ariwoola in as the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN).

The swearing-in ceremony was held briefly before the week’s Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.

The swearing-in was witnessed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and Ondo State Governor Rotimi Akeredolu.

Also present were Justices of the Supreme Court of Nigeria; the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; Chief of Staff to the President, Professor Ibrahim Bambari, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Dr. Folasade Yemi-Esan; and the National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (Rtd) among others.

Justice Ariwoola appealed to politicians during his speech to journalists after his swearing-in ceremony.

He said in light of the incoming 2023 elections, the politicians need to allow the judiciary function properly. He promised to reform the apex court.

The Council observed a one-minute silence to honour former Minister for Special Duties and PDP Chairman, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor, who died recently.
