Match Report: Manchester City and Arsenal win, Osimhen scores

Manchester City won on Saturday to keep the chase on Arsenal alive, while Liverpool drew with Crystal Palace.

Erling Haaland scored his 27th goal of the season as Manchester City thrashed Bournemouth 4-1.

He has now scored more goals than Sergio Aguero managed in a single Premier League campaign at City.

Arsenal maintained the top spot in the Premier League with a 1-0 win at Leicester.

Gabriel Martinelli struck in the first minute of the second half, latching on to a deft pass from Leandro Trossard to roll his shot past Danny Ward. Martinelli has now scored 9 goals this season for the Gunners.

Liverpool’s domestic form stumbled again with a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, despite twice hitting the crossbar.

They are six points behind fourth-placed Tottenham after failing to break down a Palace side who remain without a win in 2023.

Crystal Palace did not have a single shot on target against Liverpool.

Meanwhile Arsenal London’s neighbors, West Ham were back to winning ways as they beat Nottingham Forest 4-0.

Danny Ings’ first goals for West Ham proved the launching pad for the win as David Moyes’ side pulled themselves out of the Premier League relegation zone.

Elsewhere, new Everton manager, Sean Dyche lost his first home game, as Aston Villa beat them 2-0.

Ollie Watkins continued his excellent goalscoring form in the Premier League as Aston Villa’s victory returned Everton to the relegation zone.

Results from other leagues

In other European leagues, Napoli moved 18 points clear at the top of Serie A, with a victory over Empoli.

An own goal by Empoli defender Ardian Ismajli broke the deadlock before Victor Osimhen made it 2-0 with his 19th league strike of the season.

Osimhen has now scored in his last eight Serie A games, becoming the first player to do so since Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus.

The Nigerian striker had a goal ruled out for offside in the second half.

In Spain, Real Madrid’s title hopes suffered a further setback after being held by 10-man rivals Atletico Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Jose Gimenez gave the visitors a shock lead after Angel Correa had been sent off for elbowing Antonio Rudiger.

But teenager Alvaro Rodriguez earned Real a point with his first goal for the club.

The home side is seven points behind leaders Barcelona, who play on Sunday.

In Germany, Julian Brandt scored for the fourth successive league game as Borussia Dortmund moved top of the Bundesliga with a 1-0 victory at Hoffenheim.

Brandt used his back to divert Marco Reus’ free-kick into the net two minutes before half-time.

It was the attacking midfielder’s ninth goal of the season and stretches Dortmund’s winning run in all competitions to nine games.
