Messi agrees to extend PSG contract

Linoel Messi has reportedly agreed to extend his contract with Paris Saint-Germain by a year.

This will keep the forward in the French capital until 2024.

Messi superstar signed a two-year deal when he joined Paris Saint-Germain last year.

His contract set to expire next summer, 2023 and PSG have been keen to tie down the striker’s future.

According to transfer expert Fabrizo Romano, Messi has verbally agreed to extend his contract with PSG.

It is understood that both the player and the club will meet to discuss the length of the deal and wages.

Messi, after so long and so many attempts, finally reached the zenith of his footballing career last weekend. He helped Argentina win the World Cup in Qatar.

Now it appears, with the 35-year-old is set to stay in European football’s elite until 2024.

The move would potentially see Messi have two more shots at winning another Champions League title, a competition he has not won since 2015.

A lot of speculation has surrounded Messi’s future with reports suggesting he was ready to quit PSG.

Inter Miami and Barcelona were interested

Inter Miami in the MLS were heavily linked with the Argentine’s signature and were said to be in negotiations.

Barcelona was also reported to be closing in on a deal to seal a stunning return for Messi.

But according to Romano Messi never entered talks with Barca and a proposed move collapsed before entering an advanced stage.

Despite that, the Spanish giants have not given up on reuniting with Messi. They will try to compete with the terms offered by PSG, reports Mundo Deportivo.

There were suggestions Messi would quit international football after winning the World Cup with Argentina.

But he intends to continue representing his country, stating he wants to “continue playing as a champion”.
