UCL: Osimhen’s double sends Napoli to the quarter-finals

Victor Osimhen continued his fine-scoring record with a goal in each half to send Napoli to the quarter-finals.

Napoli beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-0 on Wednesday and 5-0 on aggregate to cruise past Frankfurt.

Piotr Zielinski won and converted a penalty in the second half as Napoli advanced as expected.

“We want to enjoy the moment and look ahead. It’s a great win, we re-wrote the history of this club,” Osimhen said.

“We keep dreaming, we don’t have limits. We follow our coach and look ahead.”

Victor Osimhen became the first Napoli player to score in both legs of a UEFA Champions League knockout stage tie.

Osinhen’s brace in the game was the first scored by a Nigerian player in the knockout stages of the competition.

With a commanding 18-point lead at the top of Serie A, Napoli head into the last eight with a real chance to compete for top prize in European football.

Napoli has qualified for the quarter-finals of the European Cup/UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history.

Following Napoli’s progression, and along with Inter and Milan, this is the first time that as many as three Italian teams have qualified for the quarter-finals in a UEFA Champions League campaign since 2005-06 (Inter, Milan and Juventus).

There are no further restrictions on teams from the same country facing each other so Napoli could be pitted against Inter Milan or AC Milan when the draw is made on Friday.

The other teams in the final eight are Bayern Munich, Benfica, Chelsea, Manchester City, and Real Madrid.
