Singer Cynthia Morgan reveals alleged clash with Pete Edochie over traditions in 2016

Cynthia Morgan, a Nigerian singer, took to her Instagram page to recount a significant encounter she had with veteran Nollywood actor Pete Edochie back in 2016.

The incident resurfaced after a video showcasing Pete exchanging pleasantries with the esteemed Yoruba monarch, the Ooni of Ife, went viral, sparking reactions and discussions.

The video displayed Pete Edochie shaking hands with the Ooni of Ife instead of adhering to the customary Yoruba cultural practices of prostrating or bowing down. This action attracted criticism on social media, with many perceiving it as disrespectful towards the revered king.

He asked me to perform an Osiba

In response to the video, Cynthia Morgan praised Pete Edochie for demonstrating respect for his Igbo traditions during the encounter. However, she accused him of disregarding the traditions and beliefs of other tribes.

To support her claim, she shared her personal experience with Pete Edochie in 2016 in Okrika, Port Harcourt. According to Cynthia, Pete, as a titled man, allegedly coerced her into performing an “osiba,” an act that goes against her Benin tradition.

As a Benin lady, it is considered taboo for her to offer an osiba to a titled Igbo man like Pete Edochie. She asserted that he compelled her to do so against her will, thereby showing disrespect towards the Benin tradition.

Cynthia Morgan expressed her hope that Pete Edochie would learn to respect the traditions of others, just as he had respected his own.
