1. Kalakuta Republic Museum
Everyone has probably heard the name Fela Kuti. And if you know your history very well, you’ll adore this activity on our list of Family-Friendly Activities in Lagos to do.
But if you haven’t, you must study this remarkable figure, Fela Kuti, in Nigerian history before leaving Lagos.
The museum, housed in Fela’s former home, presents the tale of Fela’s activism, music, and unique way of living. We were the only visitor when we went there, but that only added to its allure.

2. Lekki Conservation Center (the longest canopy walkway in Africa!)
The Lekki Conservation Centre tops most lists of Family-Friendly Activities in Lagos, Nigeria, and it’s understandable why with so many opportunities for outdoor recreation and environmental immersion.
The vast expanse of green space stands in stark contrast to the rest of the city, mostly made of concrete. It resembles a peaceful sanctuary of wildlife, nature, and calm hidden within one of the busiest cities on earth.
You can join a guided tour to learn about the local flora and animals while walking on planks through mangrove swamps. Monkeys, birds, and fish are all common sightings. Even a crocodile or a snake might be visible if you’re lucky.
In addition, you may see the forest from a unique perspective by attempting the longest canopy walkway in Africa.

3. Afrika Shrine
The ancient Afrika Shrine, created in 1970 by renowned artist and political leader Fela Kuti, has been replaced with this outdoor entertainment area.
It features some of Fela’s artwork and functions somewhat as a community centre. If you go during the day, you’ll almost certainly be greeted by many gregarious and chatty residents ready to show you around.
You might even visit at night during one of the weekend concerts at the Shrine, just like Emmanuel Macron did, which is sure to provide you with a wild night out in Lagos.
You have to visit Lagos mostly during the yearly ‘Fela-bration’ celebration for a great treat and listen to Afrobeats fill the Shrine.

4. Epe Mangroves
Need a brief vacation from the mayhem in Lagos but are weary of it? Visit the adjacent Epe Mangroves for the day. You may explore a fascinating fish market and a small Yoruba population different from Lagos.
However, taking a small boat or canoe through the mangroves, where you’ll get a taste of Nigerian nature, will undoubtedly be the highlight of any day trip from Lagos to Epe.

5. Tarkwa Bay

Tarkwa can only be reached from Victoria Island by water taxi or a 30-minute boat ride due to its location on a small artificial island.
There are many sites to catch a lift, including Mekwe Jetty. The beach boasts a friendly local community and a popular swimming and water sports destination.
Your board wasn’t packed? No problem. It’s still a fun beach in Lagos and worth going to. Additionally, it’s always fun to observe the surfers at work!

6. Moist Beach Club
Even though Lekki and Victoria Island have a wide variety of options, the recently launched Moist Beach Club is the trendiest and most exciting spot in town.
It’s a terrific location to unwind, leave the commotion of Lagos behind you, and it offers a swimming pool only steps from the coast, plenty of sitting on the open-air deck, and summer vibes all year around.

It’s a spacious Japanese restaurant with an exceptionally high ceiling. The decor is Japanese-themed, as it ought to be, with a dash of contemporary architecture to liven up the space.
At Lagos’ ultra-swanky Shiro Restaurant, you’ll get the best in high-class service. You can enjoy upscale sushi inside in a serene setting while being surrounded by a monumental Buddha head sculpture.

Most of the time, I’d be reluctant to include a restaurant on a list of the top things to do in Lagos, Nigeria, or anywhere else. However, the Hard Rock Café Lagos is unique.
One benefit is that it is a fantastic venue in and of itself. The café provides a private expanse of sand and a large open-air deck with an appealing pool.
Both of which are situated against the prime beachfront property on Victoria Island. This is excellent for you and your family or friends to wind down on a scorching afternoon.
On weekends, some of the top acts in Lagos perform at The Hard Rock, which is a mainstay of the city’s music scene. The incredibly gifted Nigerian rapper Vector Tha’ Viper entertained us at the Hard Rock when we were there.

9. The Nigerian Railway Corporation Museum
You and your family need to visit the Nigerian Railway Corporation Museum to learn more about the exciting history of Nigeria’s agricultural and industrial sectors during the colonial era.
The custodian is happy to share his in-depth knowledge of the history of Nigeria’s excellent railway network.
Even though the museum is relatively small and slightly outdated and only receives a minimal number of visitors (my group was the first on the visitors’ log for almost a week!
