Wizkid Speaks on Asake, Ayra Starr, Victony, Others

Nigerian superstar musician Ayodeji Balogun, professionally known as Wizkid, has given his piece about fast-rising artistes in Africa.

The rate at which Nigerian artistes like Asake, Ckay, Victony, Tems, Ayra Starr, and many others are making back-to-back hits has obviously caught the Grammy winner’s attention.

Wizkid noted that these artistes make him remember how he started. He disclosed that he is excited to hear fascinating musics and introduction of fresh vibes.

In his words, “Every time I hear a new, young artist in Nigeria making good music or doing something fresh, it sort of reminds me of myself back when I first started.

“The music keeps me going, honestly. There isn’t anything I love more than making music. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of doing it.

“I’ve been doing this for years. Traveling the world, doing shows, shoots, appearances, everything. So, I’m used to it.

“There are so many incredible musicians, artists, producers, engineers, and instrumentalists from Africa.

“We have it all with world-class talent and drive. There is going to be more music from Africa that’s going to make big waves around the world”.

Wizkid started recording music at 11 years old. He collaborated with the Glorious Five (a group he and a couple of his church friends formed) to release an album.

Afterwhich, the international award-winner signed a record deal with empire Mates Entertainment (E.M.E) in 2009.

His debut studio album ‘Superstar,’ shot him into the limelight, having released hit singles like “Holla at Your Boy,” “Tease Me/Bad Guys,” and “Don’t Dull,” among others.
