A 53 year old woman from New York finally became a mother for the first time in 25 years after undergoing series of invitro fertilization (IVF) treatments.
The woman, identified as Linda Smith, who is also a retired teacher, had always wanted a child with her spouse Robert. However, they faced many challenges and disappointments on their way to getting their dreams fulfilled.
According to them, they tried numerous fertility treatments, including IVF, but none of them was effective. They had also suffered four miscarriages and two ectopic pregnancies.

53-year-old woman gives birth to twins
In the post shared, Linda Smith stated she never relented in keeping her hopes alive, rather she kept trying IVF with her own eggs, even though the success rates were very low for her age group. She also said she spent over $100,000 on IVF treatments over the years.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the live birth rate per IVF cycle using the patient’s own eggs is only 1.3% for women aged 44 and older.
In 2023 however, Linda decided to try the final time with a new clinic that offered a special technique called intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI). She also decided to use donor eggs from a younger woman, which certainly increased her chances of success.
The CDC estimates that the live birth rate per IVF cycle using donor eggs is 49.4% for women aged 44 and older.
Much to her amazement, Linda became pregnant with twins after the first attempt. She disclosed she was very excited when she saw the positive pregnancy test.
Despite the positive results, she mentioned she still faced some complications during her pregnancy, such as high blood pressure and gestational diabetes.
She had to deliver her babies by cesarean section at 32 weeks due to preeclampsia, a condition that causes high blood pressure and organ damage in pregnant women.
Finally, in May 2023, Linda gave birth to her twins – a boy and a girl, named James and Jennifer. The twins weighed 3 pounds each and had to be put in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) for six weeks.
She looked quite ecstatic as she held her beautiful babies in her arms after so many years.
Linda Smith expressed her gratitude to the doctors and nurses who took proper care of her and her babies.

Meanwhile, a Nigerian woman who became pregnant at the age of 54 posted pictures of her triplets on social media in celebration.
Following the birth of the adorable infants, the woman used the handle @funmiedeni on TikTok to share a popular video of her growing belly.
