Nissi, the sister of well known Nigerian singer, Burna Boy, has criticized Davido for labelling her brother a “new cat” in the music business.
She posted a video from one of her brother’s sold-out performances abroad on her Instagram story.
Earlier on Davido made a big deal out of his claim that he and Wizkid had made Afrobeat music popular around the world before other musicians, whom he referred to as “new cats,” joined the movement.

He continued by saying that the foundation that he and Wizkid built in their formative years has benefited Grammy-winning musician Burna Boy as well as other new-school artists like Rema, Fireboy, Asake, and Mayorkun.

“Everybody knows now. I was one of the first. I and Wizkid were one of the first young artists to blow up and it feels good seeing new cats like Burna Boy, Rema, Fireboy, Mayorkun, you know a lot of new cats coming, killing it, Asake who was on my album.
“So, yes, I think the future of Afrobeat is in good hands.”
His comment caused a tremendous uproar online, leading to a discussion regarding how long Burna Boy has been working in the music business and if it is proper to refer to him as a “new artiste.”
In an apparent reaction to the ‘new cat’ discourse, Burna Boy’s sister Nissi took to her Instastory to share a video from one of her brother’s sold-out concerts abroad and captioned it, “New cats are facing their hustle.”

Meanwhile, Grammy award-winning Burna Boy has attributed the success of his recent sold-out concert at London Stadium to his younger sister and stylist, Ronami Ogulu.
The Nigerian singer made history as the first African artiste to fill the 80,000-capacity venue on Saturday.
