Fani-Kayode Drops Case Against Estranged Wife

The Federal High Court in Abuja has allegedly dismissed attempted murder charges against former Aviation Minister Femi Fani-Kayode, and his estranged wife, Precious Chikwendu.

The police applied to drop the charges on Thursday, October 6, citing Mr Fani-Kayode’s withdrawal of his complaint as the catalyst for the prosecution.

At the arraignment hearing, the prosecution lawyer, John Ijagbemi, informed the judge, Inyang Ekwo, that he had received instructions from the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to withdraw the suit.

Ijagbemi informed the court that the FCT Commissioner of Police had received a letter from the nominal complainant, Fani-Kayode, stating his intent to withdraw the case.

He based his decision to drop the charge on Section 108 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) of 2015.

Ekwo dismissed the suit after Ms Chikwendu’s and the other defendants’ lawyer, Peter Abang, did not object to the request.

Based on Fani-Kayode’s complaint, the police filed 14 charges against Ms Chikwendu, and others in a suit charge marked: FHC/ABJ/CR/01/2022.

Ms Chikwendu is the second defendant in the suit, which was filed on April 28.

Other defendants in the case included Emmanuel Anakan, Prisca Chikwendu, and Osakwe Azubuike, the first, third, and fourth defendants, respectively. Others were reportedly on the run.

He stated that under the ACJA, 2015, a charge could be withdrawn even before a judgment was rendered against any of the defendants or accused persons on trial before the court.

Fani-Kayode and Ms Chikwendu underwent a legal battle over the custody of their four sons when Chikwendu accused him of domestic violence.

The duo were cohabiting in Abuja’s upscale Aso Drive until August 2020, when Chikwendu was allegedly evicted.

She also claimed that Fani-Kayode has repeatedly denied her access to their children since 2 August 2020, citing security officials and protocol details.

Their recent social media posts indicate that they have settled their differences.
