- Femi Gbajabiamila has officially tendered his resignation from his position within the House.
- Gbajabiamila, who emerged victorious in the election for the Surulere I constituency of Lagos State on February 25, 2023, was recently appointed as the Chief of Staff to the President.
- The appointment was announced by President Bola Tinubu on June 2, 2023, through a statement issued by the State House Director of Information.

The Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila on Wednesday resigned from the House.
Following his decision to accept the new appointment, Gbajabiamila’s letter of resignation was presented on the floor of the House, where it was read by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
The House now awaits the formal communication of the resignation to the appropriate authorities.
With Gbajabiamila’s departure, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is expected to conduct a by-election to fill the vacant position representing the Surulere I constituency.
Gbajabiamila’s resignation marks the end of an illustrious tenure in the House of Representatives, spanning an impressive period of 20 years.
As the House bids farewell to Gbajabiamila, attention now turns to the forthcoming by-election, which will determine his successor in representing the Surulere I constituency.
