This decision comes in response to an undercover report by an online newspaper, exposing how a Cotonou-based university granted a degree certificate to an investigative journalist within a mere six weeks.”

On Tuesday, January 2, the Federal Ministry of Education expressed concern about the situation in the two neighbouring countries. Augustina Obilor-Duru, on behalf of the Director of Press and Public Relations, signed the statement.

In response to revelations about fake degrees issued by undisclosed universities in Benin and Togo, Musa Aliyu, the chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), held a meeting with the journalist, Audu.

The meeting, prompted by Audu’s uncovering of academic fraud, aimed to gather information that could aid the anti-graft agency in investigating the extent of the issue. The ICPC seeks to address academic fraud as it delves into the details provided by the reporter during their encounter.

Journalist’s Shocking Revelation on N600k Expense Without Attending Any Classes in Benin

Umar Shehu Audu, a journalist from the Daily Nigerian Newspaper, shared the story of obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication certificate from the Ecole Superieure de Gestion et de Technologies in Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Audu mentioned not receiving an admission letter and being uncertain about the school’s location.

The undercover journalist explained that he hired an agent who asked for payment to obtain the certificate. Audu also mentioned that he spent approximately ₦600,000 to acquire the certificate.

I was not even issued an admission letter. I don’t know where the school is located; all I did was get this agent, and he requested a certain amount of money, which I paid”.
