This is good news for Kaduna state indigenes because they can now enjoy about 200,000 per session instead of the ₦10,000 or ₦20,000 that was paid previously.

What is Kaduna State Government Scholarship?
Before June 2022 Kaduna state paid only 10,000 or 20,000 per year. But, now the state government released ₦524.12 million for students in higher institutions.

The Kaduna government has already awarded 6,858 students which they paid each student 109,000 for a session.
Another recent change in this is how the scholarships are now awarded. Afore time automatic eligibility was given to all indigenes, but now, the scholarship is awarded based on merit only.
Kaduna State also gave opportunities to those who may not be able to gain this scholarship. Anyone who cannot merit the scholarship is entitled to a loan that you will refund in part.
And the cherry on top is that a Kaduna indigene can apply, whether for local or foreign scholarships. Local scholarships (for universities within the state) started their registration in February. While scholarships outside the state register in August.

Local scholarships
Local scholarships are for those who are admitted to universities in Kaduna.
They are divided into three
Merit-based Local scholarship
To be considered for this scholarship, you must be staying in Kaduna and added to that you must have at least a 4.0 CGPA in a 5.0-grade system or 3.5 in a 4.0-grade system
If you are a fresh student you must have at least 5 B’s and others C’s in your SSCE or any recognized senior school exams. And your result must not be later than 2017
Also, you must not be an extra-year student.
Disability based scholarship
This scholarship is for disabled people in Kaduna State. To be considered you will have to meet all the criteria listed in this article and also get a doctor’s report, from any government hospital.
Students with an extra year can apply for this scholarship.
Need-Based Local Scholarship
This scholarship is carved out for those who are poor or needy in Kaduna state. Here a CGPA as low as 2.0 in a 5.0-grade system or 1.6 in a 4.0-grade system is fine.
This scholarship is very particular about your parent’s Tax Certificate or Death Certificate as it applies. Also, you will need to submit your Bank Verification Number BVN
You must not be a carry-over student, also if you have spent up to 4 years as a Ph.D. student or 2 years as a master’s student, you will not qualify.
Foreign Scholarship
This scholarship is for students who study abroad or are already studying abroad. There are six awards, which include
Merit-based Local scholarship
To be considered for this scholarship, you must do a full proof of drug and other medical tests, and you must have at least a 4.0 GPA in a 5.0-grade system or 3.5 in a 4.0-grade system
If you are a fresh student you must have at least 5 A’s and others B’s in your SSCE or any recognized senior school exams. And your result must not be later than 2017

Merit Emerging Skills Foreign Scholarship
To be considered for this scholarship, you must do a full proof of drug and other medical tests, and you must have at least a 4.0 GPA in a 5.0-grade system or 3.6 in a 4.0-grade system
If you are shortlisted you will need a reference letter from your employer if you were employed or from the last Institution of study if you were not employed.
Need-Based Foreign Scholarship
This scholarship is carved out for those who are poor or needy in Kaduna state. It is a new scholarship Here a CGPA as low as 2.0 in a 5.0-grade system or 1.6 in a 4.0-grade system is fine.
This scholarship is very particular about your parent’s Tax Certificate or Death Certificate as it applies. Also, you will need to submit your Bank Verification Number BVN

Sports Scholarship
This is a new scholarship opportunity. The Kaduna state government is still working on this to make it available to the public.

General requirements to be considered for the Kaduna State Scholarship
- State of residence: To be considered, you must be staying in Kaduna State
- Admission letter for new students
- You must have at least one year left to graduate at the time of application.
- You will also need: the personal income tax clearance certificate of your parents or their death certificate as it applies
- Your CGPA must be at least 2.5 in a 5.0-grade system or 2.0 in a 4.0-grade system for continuing undergraduates
- For fresh undergraduates, you must have at least 5 C’s in either your WAEC, WASSCE, NECO, or GCE.
- To use a combined SSCE results it must be in two sittings, which will not be later than 2017
- For Masters, your CGPA must be at least 2.5 in a 5.0-grade system or 2.0 in a 4.0-grade system
- A Ph.D. degree must have a minimum of a Master’s degree with merit.
