Monday declared public holiday for Isese day in southwestern states

  • On Monday, August 21, four states in Southwest Nigeria decided to have a day off to celebrate Isese Day 2023.
  • The states celebrating this special holiday are Lagos, Oyo, Osun, and Ogun.
  • The importance of preserving Yoruba traditions and bringing people of many religions together in harmony and peace was emphasized by Lagos Governor Sanwo-Olu and other dignitaries.

Four Southwest Nigerian states have granted their public employees a day off on August 21 in 2023 to celebrate Isese Day.

Southwest Nigeria celebrates Isese Day as a unique occasion to honour Yoruba culture and traditions and preserve their history.

Lagos, Oyo, Osun, and Ogun are the states that have declared Monday a holiday.

Monday declared public holiday for Isese day in southwestern states

In order to commemorate a unique occasion and promote Lagos’ traditional institutions, Governor Sanwo-Olu issued a holiday. His goal is to save the history and culture of the state.

In a similar vein, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde designated August 20 of each year as Isese Day.

The governor asked that prayers be offered for the state and the nation as a whole, as well as for peace, harmony, and stability.

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun wants to uphold customs and maintain harmony among various religions. Isese Day is receiving special notice from him as a result.

According to The Punch, Osun state’s governor, Ademola Adeleke, said he approved the holiday because he is the head of a government that encourages religious harmony and oneness among adherents of many faiths.
