Shallipopi Faces N200M Lawsuit for Unauthorized ‘Obapluto’ Sampling

Edo performer Pa Monday Igbinidu files a N200 million lawsuit against Shallipopi for unauthorized use of his song “Obapluto” (N’ogbaisi).

The legal action comes after Shallipopi refused to credit the veteran singer in the already recorded and released song.

Last week, Pa Monday publicly criticized Shallipopi and his mother for deceiving him and offering a meagre sum of N50,000 after using his song without proper acknowledgement.

Pa Monday gave the singer a one-week deadline to rectify the situation and include proper credits for the original work.

However, with the deadline now passed, Pa Monday Igbinidu’s legal team has initiated legal proceedings against Shalli, alleging copyright infringement.

The lawsuit, titled “Copyright infringement of the musical work of Monday Edosomwan Igbinidu alias Monday Edo Igbinidu- Demand to render account, compensation, and an apology,” seeks N200 million in damages.
