16-year-old student wins essay competition written to President Tinubu, goes home with cash prize

  • A 16-year-old young woman went home with money after she won an essay competition.
  • The essay topic, ‘If the President Could Read Me’, had many students expressing themselves to the president.
  • The competition was organized by a literary organization to celebrate their three years anniversary.

A student of the Holy Family School, Owuda Winifred emerged as the winner of an essay competition in Sokoto state.

The competition which was organized by Book O’Clock, a literary organization, was conducted to celebrate their 3 years anniversary.

42 students from 15 Secondary schools were invited to write essays with the title “If the President Could Read Me.” According to the organization, this title was brought forth so that students can express themselves on issues they would like the president to know.

The contest was open from the 1st of May to June 9, 2023, where past winners of the competition, Nigeria Prize for Teen Literature, Mujahid Ameen Lilo, Pacella Chukwuma-Eke, and Isah Aliyu Chiroma were the judges.

The students’ writing was thoroughly scrutinized based on expression, organization, and mechanical accuracy, according to Legit.

Owuda Winifred was announced the winner in a ceremony that was held on Monday, 26 of June, 2023 she took home a cash prize of N50,000, with the second, Obi Treasure from Royal Comprehensive School, awarded N30k, and the third position, Abdulrazak Ummusalma from Blue Crescent School went home with N20k.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy who failed JAMB has proven that one failure doesn’t mean the end of one’s life after he used his talent to make money.

The unidentified teenager has wowed many on the microblogging platform after a Twitter user with the name, @DevTobs shared how the young boy used his writing skills to earn over N14m.

According to him, the young boy failed JAMB twice, however, his parents decided to set him up by getting him writing materials because he had a flair for writing.
