Some wives in the capital of Nigerian, Abuja have lamented about the soar in price of tomatoes in the country.

According to Punch, they now use garden eggplants and carrots in their stew instead of tomatoes.

According to the woman, the garden eggs could blend very well with pepper just like tomato which was why they resorted to it.

In an interview, Mrs Jumai Amodu a resident of the state shared that although she wasn’t comfortable with using the alternative, she had no choice.

She however made it clear that the difference between eggplants and tomatoes has not much difference. “The only major difference between garden egg stew and tomato stew is the colour. We also use pumpkin stew with rice sometimes and although it has its unique taste, it blends well with rice.”\
