Young Nigerian Student Demonstrates How to Use Gas Made from Waste to Power Parents’ Kitchen

  • Achievers University’s 200-level student’s impressive biogas system has dazzled onlookers.
  • Omisade Toluwani, a young student from Nigeria who built a biogas system out of waste materials, spoke about his passion and inspiration in an interview.

A young Nigerian man, Toluwani, who is a 200-level student at Achievers University student in Owo shared that the major driving force behind the gas project was Nigeria’s ongoing struggle with inflation.

This gifted young Nigerian attends Achievers University in Owo, Nigeria, where he studies engineering.

When the TikTok video of Toluwani powering his parents’ kitchen surfaced, it attracted the attention of online users.

He said:

“My name is Omisade Toluwani. I am a 200-level Achievers University student at the College of Engineering and Department of mechatronics engineering.”

Since Toluwani was developing a potential natural gas substitute in the face of escalating prices in Nigeria, many people became interested in his story.

According to him:

“The inspiration to build, create, and innovate things is innate in me, starting right from childhood. Societal and environmental concerns, inflation, increase in the price of gas and the negative impact of the economy on society are my motivations to build the biogas system, which is not restricted to only cooking but also a good tool in the whole energy industry.”

According to Toluwani, the technique for producing gas in the kitchen is straightforward. Gas may be produced from garbage using only 5 essential components.

He explained saying:

“Biogas system is a simple technology that works by fermenting biodegradable materials (kitchen waste) by allowing bacteria to act on it to liberate gases (Methane and other gases) that can be used. The whole consists of no more than 5 components.”

The digester, where the fermentation process takes place, the effluent bag, the filtrate, where the gas is filtered, and the storage gas bag were among his additional mentions.

Toluwani has made his immediate family’s living situation better.

This is what he said:

“The biogas system has really changed a lot in our family; it has reduced the cost of living by making us a producer of what we consume. The analysis made a projection of the gas production that 1kg of solid kitchen waste can produce 1 hour plus of cooking gas(methane).”

As far as a tech startup is concerned, nothing is so simple. Even so, a little youngster who is trying to get by with what he has is doing well. But Toluwani intends to work through his difficulties as he advances.

He continued:

“In this first experiment I did, there were some limitations. But they will definitely be corrected in the next one and improved for it to produce to its optimal level.”

Toluwani listed the advantages of his goal, which went beyond simply empowering his home.

Here are some of the items on the list;

  • Taking a lot of waste off the community
  • The fact that the whole biogas process doesn’t stink nor emit any poisonous gas into the atmosphere makes it suitable for residential area
  • There is always a reduced risk of gas explosions.
  • The whole process can be scaled up if gas compression is invested.

During the conversation, Toluwani demonstrated his multifaceted ambition in the IT sector and his commitment to leveraging technology to address problems.

He said this:

“I have a project I’m working on right now, the aeroplane drone, that can be used for surveillance, irrigation, and spraying, especially on farmland (i.e., The Agric sector of the economy).”

He finally pointed out his biggest struggles and limitations:

“There are some completed ones, too, like Inverter and a complete DC installation for a house, Battery making and so on. I still have many projects to work on, but finance is really limiting me.”

The interview was done by Legit.ng’s Pelumi Adeniyi.

Young Nigerian student generates firepower from waste

In another news, a young Nigerian student from Achievers University shook the internet by achieving an outstanding feat. The outstanding young man powered his parents’ kitchen from waste.

Tolushade Toluwani, a student in his second year at Achievers University, impressively demonstrated his creativity by building a biogas system using recyclable materials.

Through a video posted on the internet, the young Nigerian student exhibited the functionality of the biogas system, which effectively powered his parents’ kitchen and enabled them to cook meals.
